I used to type in Windows Update in the bottom tool bar of my laptop screen, but when I did that this morning so that I could follow Susan’s advice and update, it’s not there! I’m taken to a general settings window.  It does have Windows Update Settings, history, etc. but it doesn’t take me to the window where I can resume my updating. I tried the built-in  troubleshooting, but it didn’t find any issues. At one point this morning I could see the update history and uninstalled KB5009543 as it was installed on 2/13/22 (somehow it snuck through my pause status). After restart the Windows Update window/tools still not available.

Since the last time I accessed WU, I did follow some suggestions about tweaking Start menu and apps provided by Lance Whitney even though it was for Win11 it offered some assistance for Win10 (or so I thought). I didn’t change much but could that have caused a problem?

Also, I use WUMgr which didn’t show any of the updates that Susan lists to install, only drivers!

Would a hard restart help or make things worse?

    UPDATED:
what is the file name that seems missing?
I do have a Macrium back-up from the end of January. Would using that fix the problem?

Does Win10 Home have a way like Win7 to restore to an earlier time? Would this help? UPDATED: found where I might have been able to use this but no restore points are listed!

Should I do a manually reinstall KB5009543 as well as the Feb updates in the meantime?

    Thanks for any assistance!

Thanks for the reply. Attaching screen shot of what shows if I click on folder Update and Security in Settings window. If I click on Windows Update icon in top bar, nothing happens. (screenshot also attached)

In WuMgr — Auto Update TAB — there is a Box: Hide WU Settings Page that would hide Check for Updates, Defer x days, etc. .Since your jpg shows Delv Optimization at the top of left column Vs Win Update I Think that box is chk’d.

Try clicking on Update & Security – last item on screen. Does that work?

      cheers, Paul

Thanks, it was checked as well as Disable Automatic Update. I’ll reboot for settings to take effect and then report back

thanks Paul. No that didn’t work either. I’ve tweaked WuMgr and will now reboot with fingers crossed.

each and every time WuMgr is launched or run, the Hide WU Settings option is ALWAYS checked and it needs to be UNchecked. so remember that, grams

Not on my systems. It remains unchecked.
