Windows Update Status “FAILURES” removal?

Greetings from the GREAT Country of TEXAS,

There are many FAILURES in the list of UPDATES from Microsoft. Any way I can remove them, the list is getting rather long and this may even cut it in half or close to that amount.

The only time I tried it all the entries were deleted. Then I started looking in Control Panel, Windows Update and the Installed Updates link at bottom left of that panel instead of the View update history item.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"

To BOTH of you,

Thank you for posting and the information, yet they do not cover what I am looking for, a method of removing those items that failed. YET, were eventually installed, those failures mean nothing to me or the operating system. Just a record of the problems that were had and solved, do not give any clues as to what to do the next time there are failures. That is a new ball game

I too would like to know why there are over 250 failures with approx. 600 + actual successful installs. This is done all automatically by Microsoft/Windows Update, I only do or allow the reboot when required. Mostly done HANDS-OFF . .

I understand the instructions you gave earlier, will do that shortly, maybe tomorrow, and see what comes up. Doing that as you instruct gives the ability to change the title of that folder back to the original, but; finding that list duplicating it then editing out the failures then moving it to the original folder should work, keeping the SUCCESS FULL entries/w date of install.

I would expect a lot of the 600+ successful updates were the unsuccessful ones being successfully installed on a second or later attempt.

Run Belarc Advisor and if your Installed Microsoft Hotfixes are all present.

YES, I know it is not really to save any information. Re-naming the original folder gives you access to that information because it is still there just NOT being used any longer. My curious nature got the best of me last night, did do the re-naming and looked into some of those files, NOT human readable, maybe some scattered bits and barfs . . Those files are in machine language and I cannot access any. Did do the Windows Update while investigating any possibilities. Then removed the newly created folder and went back to the original. Actually had never really looked into the WU just used it (WU) to keep my system up and running, hopefully as secure as possible as well. Never have set any Updates to manual, always been automatic. Never have had an issue with any except these ‘Failures’ maybe they were caused by the issues Susan B. writes about, until µBarf gets their act together.

Thank you for this SCHOOLING and taking the time to exchange with me, I am just a very curious animal. Journeyman Electronics Techy with over 60 years experience. Started working with computers about 1974, Data General 19 Inch Main Frame 64 bit (DGMF) with the Logic Switches across the front panel where we had to set switches and enter those settings, teaching the DGMF how to take information from a TTY (TELETYPE), used for input/output. Later moving to Zenith Green screen w/out a H/D then eventually to Desktop, IBM compatibles as they were called ‘way back when’ . . . no formal schooling just from the ‘School-of-Hard-Knocks’ and many mistakes w/BSOD. Have only had one crash that I could not recover-from, had to reinstall. You are not interested in hearing about my experiences . . just wanted to share a bit so you would know where I am coming from. Just NOT a programmer, skip-kiddy, hacker, web-designer, et ceteras . . Just self-taught . .

Did some further looking into the quantity of each, sucessfuls and failures, total entries in the “update HISTORY” 1057 with failure count is 761 or as close as I have been able to count.

YES, some are the same as the first one that failed, two (2) or three (3) up to twelve (12) to fifteen (15) and several places where there can be six (6) to ten (10) duplicates.

Never really looked into the different places you may view the UPDATES, like “View update History” the other is “Installed Updates” never realizing the difference until now. “Installed Updates” gives a count of 273 while the “View Update History” through my attempt to count them a total number of Historical records of 1057 then less the number of “Installed Updates” gives 784 which does not match the number of failures.

Need to go into these two (2) records from my system and determine the number of entries for each “KB*******” and how many of the failures never have been installed. Using my rough figures and the one COUNT (Installed History) given by Microsoft gives different quantities for the counts I have developed.

Will do more later, have another project needing my attention at this time, LATER DUD er Dude . .
