I have an Olympus 400 digital camera that connects to the computer using a USB. The Microsoft camera and scanner wizard can’t or won’t recognize the camera. I can download pictures using the Camedia software that came with the camera or I can go to My Computer and click on drive e (which appears when I plug the camera into the computer) then click on a file DCIM and then click on 100OLYMP and the picture appears, then I have the option of printing the picture or copying to a cd, but I can’t work with the picture. I’d like to use the Microsoft Camera and Scanner wizard to download the pictures because it’s handy. How do I get Microsoft Camera and Scanner wizard to see my camera?

I think what I get when I plug in my camera is a pop-up window listing a bunch of programs that would like to be used to extract pictures. This is part of the AutoPlay options. Try this: Open My Computer, right-click your CD or DVD drive and choose Properties. Click the AutoPlay tab, change the content type to Pictures, and either choose an application from the list or click Prompt me each time. Does that help?

Thank you for your response. I did as you suggested. Nothing changed.
I plugged the camera into the computer with the USB cable which is attached to the computer in the slot with the “turkey track” above it.
The computer makes the doorbell sound.
        then nothing happens.
If I click the Microsoft camera and scanner wizard shortcut on the desktop I get a “Select Device” screen. On that screen is the scanner icon, the icon for my old digital camera, and an icon for the digital camera I use now. I click on the icon for my new camera and the wizard does it’s thing and I get a screen that says “The computer cannot detect the scanner or the camera. Please make sure the device is turned on and is properly connected to the computer. I click OK. The desktop comes up. That’s it.
If I go back to the Microsoft camera and scanner wizard to the “Select Device” screen and select my new camera and click on Properties, I get a screen that says “Establishing Connection with Olympus Stylus digital 400.” It does it’s thing and then I get a screen “Unable to display properties for the selected device.”
However, I can go to My computer, click on the e drive, click on the DCIM file (the Olympus file), click on 100OLYM file, the picture appears on the monitor. I know the screen you write about that gives several options for viewing the pictures. It doesn’t come up for this camera.
What’s frustrating is the camera worked like I wanted it to when I first got it. Something’s changed but I am not able to figure out what changed.
I can get the pictures out of the camera using the Camedia program, it would just be handier to use the Microsoft program if I could make it work.

You pointed me in the right direction. I found out the autoplay doesn’t work until I open the e drive where the camera is. When I click on the e drive and then right click autoplay it works the way i want it to.
        thanks for you help.
