I am renting a house in FL. with comcast. The comcast modem works great, but the owners set up a network with a Linksys Wireless -G Broadband router. However it is set to work with their Cincinnati Road Runner service. This does not allow me to get my email through Verizon. In fact when it is connected nothing works.

Is there a way to change this?

I don’t think there is an easy solution to this, other than putting in your own Wireless Router configured to use a different channel so that you don’t conflict too badly for the available wireless bandwidth.

Stuart may well be right on with his answer, but I do not really understand your constraints. Whose computer are you using, yours or the owners ? How do you know the Comcast modem “works great” ? As long as you have an internet connection you should be able to get your Verizon mail, it’s a web-mail service is it not?

I am using my own wireless laptop and am getting my verizon email. The comcast modem is working since I get my email and can go to the internet.
I was hoping to be able to utilize the wireless network which is why I asked the question about the router.

Are you saying you can't connect wirelessly to the Linksys, but CAN use your laptop if you cable it directly to the Comcast modem?

Try telling the router to connect using a DCHP auto address instead of a Static one.
