      Don’t all Windows Updates appear suddenly, without warning?

      Not at all. There’s usually a KB article, and an official announcement on the Windows Update page, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/894199

      In addition, security updates are almost always accompanied by Security Bulletins.
