WMI Battery status showing discharge rate of large negative number

Here’s a weird one.

I have two laptops – both running the latest Windows 8.1 (including all updates). On my HP Envy, if I use WMI Explorer to look at the Battery status Discharge Rate, I see a value of (for example) 23345 which shows it is discharging at 23,345 mw (I think that’s how it’s interpreted). This is fine.

On my new HP Spectre 360, I see a value of -2147483648 in that field. Which is absolute gibberish.

Does anyone have any idea what’s going on here? This value is needed to calculate the remaining battery time.

The computer may need calibrating.

Thanks. I’ll try that.

I did ring HP and they said that the DischargeRate was not supported – which struck me as very strange.

Let’s see what a calibration does.

If it is not supported you would expect rubbish figures. No amount of calibration will fix that.

You are right – it didn’t change.

I am surprised (and disappointed) that HP decided not to support this in their top end laptop where they “claim” an extended battery life. Maybe it’s to stop the claim being refuted (they claim up to 12.5 hrs battery life, although I’ve never got near that).

I feel the same with my Samsung Ultra Book, great lap top with a 14 inch touch screen, cost plenty and I am also surprised and disappointed with the battery life. After reading this thread I’m interested in looking into the process from the link Sudo15 posted. Thought poor battery was for smart phones due to the size.:huh:

I guess the “up to” part have the device makers covered, of course they don’t mention 4 hours battery life during photo transfer to external HD.:o:
