:mad:I am using Windows 7 and working on a (big) Word 2003 document. Whenever I do editing in split-screen (and only in split-screen) do I on a regular basis get a message reading: Word has insufficient memory. You will not be able to undo this action once it is completed. Do you want to continue?
Even though I have 8MB RAM installed, I still have no idea why I am getting this message; can someone please clarify this mystery for me.

How big is the document? i.e. how many megabytes?

I’ll check the size tonight & get back to you tomorrow

      Robko,

Even though you have 8 {and I believe you meant GB vs MB!} you are using 32 bit Word 2003 and thus you are limited to using 4GB of memory for your Word documents. Now I’m not sure of this, but pretty sure, that is the 1st 4Mb where the OS & Word itself is also using memory, and maybe other running programs as well, so what is left for your document is much less than 4Gb.

Update, well I wasn’t entirely correct.

Take a look at this and this and this one directly from the horses mouth. Seems like this is a very techie topic. This summary from the last link:

If the application has the IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE flag set in the image header, each 32-bit application receives 4 GB of virtual address space in the WOW64 environment. If the IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE flag is not set, each 32-bit application receives 2 GB of virtual address space in the WOW64 environment.

      Say What?

I have encountered a problem with really big documents with the spell checker deciding it is all too hard to continuously check the spelling. Have you tried turning off the automatic spell/grammar check?

I don’t have spell checking enabled as this document contains foreign words – same with checking of anything.
