    Hi All:

I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem with Word 2000. If I:
    1. Insert a clipart & textbox into a document, both in the drawing layer.
    2. Resize them to fit in a label & group them.
    3. Make them into an autotext entry.
    4. Open Envelopes & Labels/Labels tab.
    5. Type the autotext entry & press F3…

    two things happen.
    1. The label in the dialog box switches to a page layout or print preview type of view & the cursor becomes so small that I can’t see the text.
    2. When I try to create a new document of labels, I get a general protection fault every time.

I could find nothing on the Knowledge Base. It happens even if I start Word from the command line with winword.exe /a. Can anyone else duplicate this problem? Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi BAM:

Thanks for responding. I was trying to place the address next to the graphic. I can’t group the objects unless they’re in the drawing layer. Funny that others don’t seem to have this problem. I ran Detect & Repair… & it made no difference.

Do you get the first behavior that I mentioned? That is, if you create an autotext entry for a drawing object & insert it into a label dialog box, does the label & cursor shrink so you can’t read it?

It is definitely the text box that causes the crash. If I only use graphics, I can’t see them until I create a page of labels, but it doesn’t crash.

      Thanks again.

      Hi Phil,
I tried this at work on Word2000 – inserted a graphic plus an address, grouped the image & text box, clicked on Autocorrect, chose ‘formatted’ called it label and it works – no problem. Then I used F4 to repeat the process in other labels. Worked like a charm.

Thanks, Paddy. That makes 5 people now that don’t have the problem & I’m the only one I know that does. So, it looks like I wallow alone smile. I hate the thought of uninstall, reinstall, install all updates, etc…but I can’t think of what’s causing it.

What about using Word 2000’s table-within-a-table and paste the clip art in one and the address in the other just to see if it makes a difference. But this doesn’t answer the question as to why this is happening for you. What is your screen view – page view, 75% … ? What are the page margins – not outside the printable area? FYI – I did not use a text box for the graphic – just placed it to left of address.

            Hi Paddy:

I tried that, but the labels themselves are put in a table. If the address & graphic are put in a table, the tables are interspersed, rather than one within another. But thanks for the idea.
