I’m using the Office 2007 Home and Student edition. Every time I exit from Word, the program crashes. If I run Word with the /a switch this doesn’t happen so I suspect it’s an addin problem, specifically with the Microsoft Search Commands addin. I tried to uninstall the latter but apparently it didn’t uninstall completely. The software is no longer on my computer, but the Scout Commands.dotm file is still listed in my addins (even though the file located at the path displayed there doesn’t exist). When I try to remove it, Word crashes. I even tried reinstalling Office, but that didn’t eliminate the problem. I would appreciate any help in resolving this problem.

AskWoody LoungerJune 2, 2009 at 5:39 pm #1163227I don’t have Office 2007, but for earlier versions, some information about add-ins is stored in the Windows registry, in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeWordAddins and in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftOfficeWordAddins. You might take a look in those locations using Regedit to see if Scout Commands.dotm is mentioned there. If so, remove the entries that refer to it.

Thanks for your reply. I had searched the registry for the scout commands addin (also referred to as search commands) and couldn’t find it. Apparently the information was being stored in another place that Word was accessing.I was able to use System Restore to restore my system to a state where Word was not corrupted. I was then able to remove unwanted addins. Office is behaving properly now.
