Word crashes after closing document 2

If from the start menu, I open a new Office Document, select a Word document, save it, then close it, then open a new document (document 2), then try and save document 2, Word crashs (Winword has performed and illegal operation). This happens with nothing else running except what is started after a reboot. What could be causing this conflict?

Just to add to BAM’s advice, make sure you close Word (and any other running application) before deleting the temp files. Also, it won’t hurt to delete all ~*.* files. You should do this [deleting] on a regular basis, even though rebooting may often take care of temp files. But especially do this after any crash, AFTER you’ve checked to make sure you still haven’t lost your data.

A good idea. But Word can also leave temp files in other folders.
