I am passing on a letter I received from a 2nd source, (it’s come down through the chain to me, and it just sounds pretty mixed up)…can you tell what she has done and what might she do to fix her problem?

    QUOTED PROBLEM FOLLOWS:

I have tried every source I know to fix a problem I am having in WORD.
I type very fast and apparently I pressed two keys at a time – a window
popped up re: FILTER KEYS…..COMBINATION KEYS…..I had the option to
cancel combination keys turn on or off – I was curious so I opened the
window (where it specified to click) and saw many different options for
key functions…..soooooo I checked a few boxes – I TURN ON the option
when CAPS key is pressed IT WILL BEEP- as well as, an option to set the
BACKSPACE KEY and ARROW KEYS to move fast or slow…..

    My problem is:
    (1) when I touch the CAPS key it beeps (very annoying)
    (2) when I depress my arrow key (any one of the four arrow keys) I can
only move one character at a time (not good)
    (3) when I depress my backspace key ( I can only backspace one character
at a time (also not good) I want to get back into the section where I can uncheck what I have
checked, however, I cannot locate it. I have spent hours and hours, inputting all kinds of information in the
Microsoft Help box with NO SUCCESS.

I have tried Tools, Customize, Keyboard……etc. PLEASE, PLEASE, can
anyone help me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Appreciate any answers you can give so I may pass it on to her, and will give her the address of this conversation so she may keep up with your conversation and possible answers.

    Thanks a Million!

These are accessibility options in Windows, not in Word. The following is for Windows XP, it may be slightly different in other Windows versions.
      Select Start | Control Panel.
Open the Accessibility Options control panel
      Click Accessibility Options.
Activate the Keyboard tab (if necessary)
      Clear all check boxes.
Click each of the Settings buttons in turn, and clear the ‘Use shortcut’ check box.
      OK your way out.

        Thank you Hans…
Will let you know if this solved her problems.

Excuse my ignorance HansV but in a case like this would a System Restore to an earlier date not have solved the prob? SFox

I don’t know if a System Restore will affect accessibility options, but it seems overkill for a problem such as that mentioned by Teachesms, since it has a relatively simple solution.

I don’t doubt your judgment for a moment HansV, as I’m convinced (after reading scores of your answers on the “Word” section alone) that you have forgotten more about these things than I shall ever know. It just flashed through my mind as something I would have done before stumbling across this FANTASTIC forum where foggy things suddenly become clear as a result of all you wonderful moderators’ replies. Keep up the wonderful work as I say on behalf of many thousands of people around the world a genuine big thank you. S Fox UK
