    I just tested…I set up a search for messages containing notepad-plus, and I knew the messages were there. But in the messages, the text was contained within square brackets.

    The search found no messages.

    Does Outlook ignore text contained in square brackets?

      What version of Outlook? What service pack? Is it up-to-date with patches?

      Can you post the rule? Are there other rules that could have affected the message?

      Does search work with other messages? Are you indexing Outlook contents?

        Rui / Joe;

        I found that it’s the square brackets “[]” that are causing the hassle.

        Dunno as yet how to fix this. I’ve seen the done a lot before (brackets in the subject line), so I’m kinda curious how to fix this for now and future needs.

      Would this work?

      Create a rule that would match any of the following in the subject:

      searchword
      [searchword
      searchword]
      [searchword]
      32220-olrule

      Not the most elegant of solutions but may do what you want.

      Glad to be of help Chuck.

      Remember to select stop processing any more rules in the rule you create.
