What is the function of the WS32.dll file. A friend of mine has “can’t find ws32.dll file” appearing on his screen frequently.
I can find a download for It but don’t want to install it because I don’t know what it is. It sounds like the file is corrupt.
I’m running Win ’98 SE and don’t have it on my computer without any problem.
Please advise.
Thanks

AskWoody LoungerMay 10, 2003 at 1:19 am #675354Hi, Jack ~
I seem to recall a similar thread a while back in the Win95 or 98 forum. What OS is your friend using? Although I cannot locate an exact description per se for you, if it is Windows 3.1 or 95 then it may be for ‘windowserver’ or ‘winsock’.
In either case, they are TCP/IP & DUN related and will inevitably require the Windows Socket 2 Update first (which has the WS2_32.dll) and then the Microsoft Dial-up Networking 1.3 and Winsock2 Year 2000 Update. They will need to be installed in that order.
The reason you won’t see it on your Win98 unit is that it did not have it or was automatically updated during upgrade from Win95 or 3.1.

AskWoody LoungerMay 10, 2003 at 10:36 pm #675484Thanks Bruce and Hans. I was able to run the winsock setup and the problem was solved. Your responses helped me to realize what to do.
For a time I thought it might be the Happy virus but ran the fix for that and it was not. So the file must have become corrupted for some other reason.
Ours is not always to reason why but to fix the problem so it doesn’t happen again. Problem fixed.
Thanks a lot.
