MS’s WinXP upgrade diagnostic reports my NIC driver (BCAITDI.SYS) to be incompatible. It is an integrated, 3Com C905C TX compatible NIC in a new Dell 330 Workstation. I have updated to the latest 9/26/01 driver. Neither Dell nor 3Com have anything newer. It seems that something this basic and fundamentally important should not cause an intended XP installation to gag. I ran RC2 on a new Dell 8100 Dimension with no problems – probably a slightly different driver. Any advice would be appreciated. headthrob

My XP-RC1 came up fine on a Dell GX200 Optiplex, with nic 3Com3C920(3C905CTX compatible). Driver is MS dated 6/26/01 ver 2.2.00. Driver file is windowssystem32driversel90xbc5.sys.

        Thanks, Moniq.

I changed my nic driver to the one you mentioned, and while my network works fine, the MS XP upgrade diagnostic still reports the same error. It finds the following to be incompatible: “BCAITDI DMI TDI”. That is not a file (my NIC driver is the one you suggested). A search on that string, in quotes and including the spaces, yields nothing. There is some sort of 3Com DMI service running, though. Any other ideas?

I drained my brain – maybe Dave or Leif or other lounge gurus will come awake!

You do have ‘msconfig’ in XP. Try running this to see what is alive.

I don’t want to take the chance of a bad install of XP to get to its msconfig. I will keep trying to sort this out within W2K first.

            thanks
