XP SP2 with 2 startups (XP)

I have a similar problem on 2 computers. One is a bad install on XP so I did a second install and put it in a different folder and deleted the other Windows folder. However, on startup I am presented with 2 choices, one the good copy and one the corrupted copy. It defaults to the good copy, but I would like to be able to remove the corrupted copy. I have run JV16 Registry Cleaner and that doesn’t do it. Also on a second computer I installed XP over 2000. I wanted to get a command prompt at startup and delete 2000 first, but when I hit F8 twice, I got that I could do a safe mode with command prompt. Well, I got safe mode but could never get the command prompt, so I finally installed XP anyway. I am wondering whether there is any way to get rid of the 2000 copy. Any ideas appreciated.

Take a look at your boot.ini file in the root directory of C drive. Right click on it and open it in notepad.

You will probably see two systems mentioned there. You can delete the line where it mentions Win2000.
Save it with the changes and reboot.

Further to Viking’s advice – the BOOT.INI file is a read-only, hidden system file. To edit it, you will need to unhide it and remove the read-only attribute.
