For those starting Win 7 from scratch, or wishing to have a DVD to load Win 7 from scratch with SP1 and IE 9 already included this is very nice. Many wish to have an updated installation DVD without having to depend on MS to supply it, and at what cost.

For my purposes, having an up to date Image works even better because the Image will include all customizations I have made, and all apps I have installed including all data at the time the Image was created. This allows a restoration in less than 10 minutes. This serves me very well, and has indeed been used numerous times when I “play” with my OS.

      Ted,

I wholeheartedly agree with what you have said and I do the same, always keeping at least two images made at no longer than two week intervals.

Still, I also have a created a slip-streamed install disk that I find very handy.

Only once have I tried the “no-reformat, nondestructive reinstall” process, and for me it created more issues than it resolved.

      al,
Hello…Interesting…And Welcome to W.S. Lounge…I have been reading through your link and had a question maybe you can answer … Do you need to have SP-1 “on hand” ( previously downloaded ) to do this procedure ? As i have no experience with this program, probably deserves a thread of it’s own …As you have used this program before could you start one? Regards Fred

Yes, you DO have to have an actual SP-1 downloaded.

As you requested, I have posted links to the entire process in another thread “Slip-streaming SP-1 into a Win 7 Install disk” –

It DOES work – I’ve used it myself once in Win 7 and twice with XP. However, the song-and-dance you have to go thru if you’ve already installed SP1 & don’t have a SP1 install disc limits its use for now. An image would be better (if you have one); otherwise – put on your dancing shoes.

I haven’t posted on this forum before, so will apologize in advance if I am breaking some sort of protocol or causing “thread drift”.

I have successfully gotten around the “song and dance” aspects of the non-destructive re-install by slip-streamming SP-1 into my original Windows 7 using “Rt Se7en lite”. This has effectively made the install disk an SP-1 version.

      Please see http://www.rt7lite.com/

It was not very complicated and works well.
