AskWoody LoungerJune 28, 2017 at 5:35 am in reply to: The grugq: PetyaWrap causing lots of havoc, making little profit #122436Well, I’ve done the perfc thing, and now my National Weather Service links will not accept another location for reviewing the local weather. Can’t say for sure this is a direct result, but clicking on the zip code or city name and state worked a half hour before. Any ideas?
This looks like it’s a National Weather Service bug. My National Weather Service link won’t accept another location either and I haven’t done the perfc thing or installed any of the June patches.

AskWoody LoungerInteresting, but probably ultimately irrelevant: although I still have .NET 2 through 3.5, they don’t appear in the list of installed programs.
They don’t appear in the list of installed programs because they aren’t. They’re part of Windows 7.

That is an argument for why they want to know more about you. It is not an argument for why they should spy on you whether you want them to or not. And it is certainly not an argument for their spying on you and not letting you know that they intend to spy on about you.

I am on Windows 7 and would like to use the Sphinx firewall to set up a deny-by-default configuration, but I have no idea what system connections can be denied without causing problems.
Do you have such a list or do you know of any method other trial-and-error for me to find out by myself?
Thanks for any information you can provide

AskWoody LoungerI do not think woody was referring to upgrading Win 7/8.1 to Win 10 through the Accessibility loophole upgrade method
He wasn’t. I never said or implied that he was.

AskWoody Loungerthis is still an official MS statement
Yes, but there is still an official MS loophole (See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade), so they can’t deactivate W10 installations just because they were activated after July 29, 2016.

AskWoody LoungerMay 15, 2017 at 9:52 pm in reply to: How to make sure you won’t get hit by WannaCry/WannaCrypt #115542Shall I bite the bullet and install the January Roll-Up (3212646) to ensure I get what was in 3212642?
I have 4012204 and 4012212, so I think I’m safe, for now, from the WannaCry exploit.
With 4012212 installed you’re safe. There’s no need to install any rollups.

This is only true if your OS and your data are in the same partition. Having separate partitions is a much better arrangement.

I remember reading that the tools released by the Shadow Brokers were all created before there was a Windows 10 and therefore didn’t work on it. But a far as I know this was no more than an assumption.

A further suggestion. Perhaps you might want to change
Follow the links at the bottom of the Technet page to download and run the installer.

May I suggest that instead of scanning the list of updates, it is easier to copy each of the relevant KBs from your post and paste it into “Search Installed Updates” (at the top of the window on the right-hand side)?

For anyone who might not be aware, in order to look at the Install Resources tab you must first click on the Title tab.

AskWoody Loungerone pertinent fact
Microsoft has often proven that “Microsoft facts” and “facts” can be two entirely different things.
