    • in reply to: Patch Lady – my Lenovo finally got offered 1809 #330688

I have a old HP Desktop with a AMD Athlon 2 and 5 GB Memory that had been sitting in my closet for over 2 years.

A couple of months ago i set it up in my living room as sort of a media center. It had to upgrade from 1607 to 1803 and it just about choked on that.

I checked yesterday(i did have to hit check for updates) and it  offered me 1809.

It went suprising well took about 2 hours but seems to be running well.

Installed on my 1809 machine. No apparent problems other than it messed up the HDMI scaling but that seems to happen with every update.

I to am a seeker. always have been always will be. I upgraded using the upgrade assistant and lost everything in my pictures folder. Between my back up and one drive I was able to recover most but not all and the then my back up drive failed. go figure.

      2 points

      A. from what I have read it seems that the problem was the upgrade assistant.

      B. i belive one drive is to blame for the data loss. we shall see

I just wanted to let you know I solved my problem. I have always kept my external drive plugged in and never had any problems. the other day just for grins I unplugged it before I turned on my computer and it started up fine.in fact it was so fast I was convinced fast boot had been enabled. at this point I don’t care I just plug it in when I do my backup.
      problem solved case closed.

hopefully this will not be considered off topic but the problem started after I used the new fresh install option.
I received the update thru windows update and about 2 days later I used the new fresh install option not “reset” to install a fresh copy of windows 10.
this is a almost new Lenovo desktop with a AMD A10-7800 3.5ghz processor and 12GB ram.
It has a wireless option but I use a Ethernet connection. the computer runs great even better than when it was new other than the slow boot time.
there were several Cisco programs installed that I assume were related to the wireless option that were no longer there after the fresh install. I have no idea if this could be part of the problem but my gut felling tells me the computer is looking for something that’s not there.
Steve did not specify how he received the update but I am very curious.
