AskWoody_MVPIf one was to use the DOWNLOAD method, one must download the complete file, that will cover ALL versions of Windows 7. But if one goes through the Windows update, only the data required for the installed version, will be downloaded. If I remember right the SP1 through Windows update to less than 30 minutes to download and install.
YES, there are several REQUIRED updates before the SP1 will appear in the list. I think it appeared on the 2nd session and then IE 9 appeared on the 3rd session, but I may be wrong on both of these.

AskWoody_MVPWith the “www” then only the sites with the WWW will be affected, but and “Sub domains” at that domain will not be affected.
This way, a site such as forums.techguy.org/ would not be affected by a http://www.techguy.org/, but techguy.org/ would get both of them or ALL others at that domain if there are more than one sub domain.DaveA I am so far behind, I think I am First

AskWoody_MVPIs this printer a local one or one on a network?
On all of my systems, when ever a printer is added, it is available to ALL of the users, even a new account that is added after the printer is added.
This has been this way since Windows 98.

AskWoody_MVPI do not use partitioning as the original need for it has gone away.
Even if you put your data and programs each in a separate partition, then when the drive goes they all go. Now if one is to use separate hard drives then this is not a issue.
If I want to save a file in some location other than the default “My Documents” it is just a few clicks away and the file is where I want it. I do save most of my data files across the network to my file server, but I do have a lot locally.
I can rebuild my system just as fast as I use a imaging program and can do it all in one shot. I do not use incremental images just full each time.

AskWoody_MVPI tried the suggestions in this thread, but nothing worked until I saw the last one from JoeP. That worked, but only when I set the BIOS to boot from the DVD/CD drive, not the CD drive. Why that should be so I have no idea.
Best regards,
RoyBecause you have a DVD/CD drive not a CD drive which uses different settings within the BIOS.

AskWoody_MVPWhen you set up the Homegroup there was a password that you were given, this same password needs to be used when setting up the Homegroup on the other machines. If you use a different password the you have set up another HomeGroup.
Go to “Control Panel”, then “Choose homegroup sharing and options”, there click on “View/Print Homegroup Password”. This will give you the password that needs to be use on all machines accessing the same homegroup. This password is in addition to the normal User password and the two are not related.

AskWoody_MVPNo and it is not legal. The online upgrade is linked to the OLD machine because it is a UPGRADE.

AskWoody_MVPWe do NOT use “Libraries” and just put most of our documents in “My Documents” and any of the other “my” folders.
We also have shared drives across our Workgroup network, that we save to all the time.Just be aware that many times the save as will jump to the Libraries and you then are not sure where things are going.
Always check the full that of your file saving.
We also do not move the default location for the “My Documents”, they are left under c:Users”UserName”|

AskWoody_MVPIf it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
The only time I look for ANY hardware drivers is if a device is not working and then I will check with the OEM of the problem device only.

AskWoody_MVPI have been using 1and1 for many years and have been very happy with their service.
The only thing to be aware of is that a lot of these cheaper sites will OWN the Domain name as you will be only renting it. I set mine up when there was only one agency that did the registering and parked it there for a while. Then then found a host site later and moved to 1and 1.
True I pay extra for the registering and is a separate bill, but I own it.DaveA I am so far behind, I think I am First

AskWoody_MVPMay 9, 2011 at 11:26 am in reply to: Win 7, 64 bit Ultimate – eveything in “devices and printers” disappeared?? #1278736telebiz,
Is this machine a company owned machine or a personal own machined set up yo be used on a company network? If it is a Company owned machine, then I would have the Company IT support handle this issue.
