      MaryJ,
You stated ‘RTF format which is only readable by Outlook’, but almost ALL word processors will, can read and save files as RTF. RTF is a somewhat generic type of formatted text that a lot of programs can read. I think that Lotus 123, Excel, and Access can read these file also.

Winmail.dat is being generated by one of the ISP’s, could be the sender’s or the receiver’s ISP that is doing this. If AOL is involved forget it, they are the NUMBER 1 problem with Winmail.dat files. Most of the time when this happens try sending using a different email provider and see if you are still having this problem. But also try sending a file to your self using a different email address. There are all links of free one out there.

If you used the ‘Uninstaller that came with McAffee it should have taken care of that.
      How did you “remove” McAffee???

This is a function of ‘Auto Correct’. You can turn off Autocorrect or delete these entries from the Autocorrect listing.

These computers are on a network, are there login profiles for each user?

Check and make sure that you do NOT have more than one copy of Normal.dot on each computer.
On one of these computers do the following.
Delete ALL copies of Normal.dot and then start up Word. Check the file locations, if NOT where they belong change them. Exit Word, then restart up Word. Check the file locations, are they is correct?
Exit Word, restart yhe computer and then go into Word and check the files location, are still correct ?

The ONLY way is to reboot. If the program does NOT give it back it is a program problem NOT a Windows problem.

Check the location of clipart defualt folder in the Tools, option, and on the File location Tab. See if the ‘My Pictures’ has been set to be the default. If it is then this is your problem.
Just change the file location to agree with your clipart folder.

Good luck. The ONLY sure way is to reinstall from the master disk. I you should have the masters if you own the software.
Also, I am asuming that the new machine will have Windows 98 or better on it. So this will also be MORE of a problem. Ther is a lot of different support files that are installed by the different software for the different OS’s.

You will get message when a file has NOT been closed correctly. It appears that all of the files that you have on your machine a copies of ones that were not closed correctly. Do you have the extentions showing in your files listing. If so what extentsion are you selecting?

I have seen some talk about a macro that would do this for you. Have you loaded ANY third party macros or Templates?

    • in reply to: My Documents Folder #1774685

On both of these that you listed you can move to My Documents folder by using the different buttons within the Open file or save as panes.
Some programs are WRITTEN, Photosuite being one, to use THEIR selected home folder. I have NOT run into ANY program that I can NOT get to MY Documents folder.

THIS is a problem with the different programs NOT MS Windows.
