      CLiNT:

Thanks for the info and your experience with SSD. I was afraid it was an all or nothing scenario.

I do an image backup of my SSD, to a conventional hard drive, on a scheduled basis. I chose to leave all my data on the SSD, but back the data up much more frequently, again to the conventional hard drive.

      Spark,

It’s on the Other Tasks Menu.

      Here’s a tutorial on How-to-Geeks.

Sorry, I no longer have the Free version as I use the Pro version (well worth the money) which has an auto-verify feature so I’m doing this from memory. But you can see the menu option in the How-to-Geeks article. HTH

I have both the Standard Version and the Free Version. My Free Version (5.3, for Win 64 bit) no longer offers a Verify option. The Standard version still does.

I also Highly recommend that your reinstall office in win 32 instead of win64

My two Windows 7 computers are 64 bit. Excel 2007 is installed in Program Files (x86), but that is probably not what you are talking about.

OK. After seeing the file I found that the problem was that you were charting more cells than you should. I see you were using defined names but not referring to them. Start with the DATE for the base Dates=OFFSET(Data!$A$12,1,0,COUNT(Data!$A:$A),1)
      Do NOT use negative offsets.
      then times=OFFSET(Dates,0,1)
      etc
then refer to the name in series by using
      =filename.xlsb!dates
Now your charts will be SELF ADJUSTING

Thank you for finding the problem. You are much more experienced in setting up Excel spreadsheets that I am. So I need some more guidance.

You said ‘Start with the DATE for the base…’. Am I doing this by selecting the Date column on the Data tab, or ‘Select Data Source’ on the BP chart tab, or somewhere else?

Also, I am not sure where the ‘times=OFFSET’ and the ‘=filename.xlsb!dates’ are entered.

So any help will be much appreciated.

I just Emailed you the file.

That file is set to Automatic calculation, as are all? of my Excel files. I just checked it.

I have Windows XP (32 bit) on another computer, which also has Excel 2007. I just opened the file I sent you there. Same problem.

      Manual calculation???

I have a bp file also. If you send your problem file to dguillett@gmail.com, I’ll take a look.

BTW, Most users do NOT use 64 bit Excel.

Thanks for the offer. I will send a file that shows the problem.

Not sure what you mean by ‘manual calculation???’.

My version of Windows 7 is 64 bit. My Excel 2007 is 32 bit. Sorry for the confusion.

      Michael:

Great tip–Command Central: Windows functions in one place. Installed on my Win 7 desktop just fine. Unfortunately, I did not want it there, so drug it to one of my program folders. Big Mistake! Just hovering over the entry filled the screen with all the options. Thankfully, I was able to use Windows Explorer and delete it.

Is there any way to structure Command Central so it can reside in an Windows Explorer Program File list?

    • in reply to: Page Break display problem in Word 2007 #1458979

It looks like the dotted line extends the width of the page when it does not end with a paragraph mark. Otherwise (paragraph mark not deleted by backspacing over it), the line goes only part way across the page. In the first case, the page break is within the paragraph. In the second case, the page break *is* the paragraph. A line break (Shift-Enter) will also extend the dotted line across the page

I don’t know anything about VBA code, so I would need some direction.

I don’t get the same results you do. I never see the partial line you describe. I ran three tests:
      1. I placed the cursor in the middle of a sentence, and then hit Ctrl+Enter.
      2. I placed the cursor after a period (end of sentence) and then hit Ctrl+Enter.
      3. I hit Enter to create a new paragraph, placed the cursor at the beginning of the new paragraph, and hit Ctrl+Enter.

In all cases, when I press the Backspace key, I get the line all the way across the page with ‘Page Break’ in the middle. I then did a Print Preview on each of the three, and the Page Break is exactly where I placed it, and there are no characters or spaces missing from the document.

That is exactly what I get. For me the space marks are confusing, so I don’t use them.

    • in reply to: Page Break display problem in Word 2007 #1458933

Thanks for your tips. I already have the Paragraph mark checked in Word Options. If you click on the icon as Rick suggested, that displays ALL of the formatting marks, not just the Paragraph mark. So that is no good to me. And I just tried this on two different Win 7 computers, Charles, so I don’t think it has anything to do with my display or computer settings.

But in experimenting, I did find this. First go to Word Options and check only the Paragraph marks in Display->’Always show these formatting marks on the screen’. Now do a Ctrl+Enter at some location on a .docx document. This should display only the paragraph mark about 20 spaces in from the left margin, as I said in the first post. The cursor should now be at the start of the new paragraph. Hit the Backspace key. Presto, the dotted line appears across the page, with the words “Page Break’ in the center.

Very strange. Any thought as to why .docx works this way?

In Win 7, unless wireless is disconnected, disabled or switched off using the F keys, the router’s DHCP will still assign the Wireless adapter with an IP address and give you WiFi even when wired, but are you saying that with WiFi disabled that it won’t connect when wired ?

      Jerry:

No, what I was saying was that following the geek article for changing priority and timing did not do it.

This morning I searched and found my Lenovo .pdf Manual. F9 opens a screen which lets you turn wireless on or off. I turned it off, and now I get my ethernet connection.

My Lenovo E430 (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) was already set as described in the howtogeek article. Still only accesses via the WiFi.

    • in reply to: Remove/Reduce Shortcut arrows on Windows 7 64 bit #1455534

      Joe S:

I downloaded/installed the 64 bit version of Vista Shortcut Overlay Manager. I chose the small arrow option, to see what it looks like. Works fine, and as you said, can pin/unpin the shortcut to the taskbar.

It seemed to be less clear how to actually REMOVE what you set. There was a different document that addressed that subject. I would think you could just open the program again and select the Arrow (default) and you would be back to the way Windows created it. Have you ever tried to remove an arrow (or no arrow) that you set?
