AskWoody LoungerWell, at 1530 IO gave it a shot on my laptop. And got bupkis. It just said I was up to date.

AskWoody LoungerJune 26, 2019 at 11:24 am in reply to: Win10 version 1903 disappearing Update settings described, but not explained #1860254Well, I guess there IS an advantage to being a simple Home user and not some high-tech IT guy. I’ve gone ahead and put Windows 10 ver 1903 on my laptop. I just checked for the umpteenth time and my “pause updates” button is still there and it give me the option to continue the pause, one week at a time.
btw, I’m using 1903 because I moved back to an older laptop because my newer one wasn’t working properly. This laptop had Win 8.1 when I re-started it last month. I decided to try 1903 and it took me three days to update, but here I am, happy as a clam.

AskWoody LoungerOn the 18th my Windows 1803 ver 1743.441 put a message on my Windows
Defender page saying I need to take action: “A fresh reinstall with the
most up–to-date version of Windows” Yeah, right. Just another way to
trick users (not admins) into installing 1810. Needless to say, I’m
staying with your Defcon 2 -

AskWoody LoungerMay 30, 2018 at 12:55 pm in reply to: Microsoft on forced Win10 1803 upgrades: “We are aware of these reports and actively investigating this issue” #195203On May 14 and again May 20 I PM’d you about a forced upgrade. So, yes, it has happened, whether or not MickeySoft wants to admit it.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 20, 2018 at 10:58 am in reply to: Windows 10 1709 still isn’t ready for prime time — and the latest buggy cumulative update, KB 4074588, proves the point #168922OK, this patch (4074588) is the one I mentioned is showing up twice on my “installed updates” tab. The top one is “failed to install on (current day)” and then one down from that is “installed on 2/15” So, hmmmmmm.
BTW maybe this patch, if it is in fact installed, is why your “Ludicrous” speed just isn’t! Do not see any difference.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 16, 2018 at 11:17 am in reply to: Report of the Win10 1709 cumulative update KB 4074588 disabling USB devices #167843OK, I’m confused, which is not a new thing for me. When I check the “installed updates” I get conflicting messages. The top one says that the cumulative update failed on 2/15 and the next one down says the cumulative update was installed on 2/15. Oh, I am using the “metered connection” thing. As far as USB goes, I have noticed that periodically my mouse gets flakey. It works but, for want of a better term, stutters.

AskWoody LoungerMaybe I’m just too old. I spent the morning trying it and do not like it. Can’t find my bookmarks, everything wants me to sign in again, then when I do that, I have to do the two-step just to get to the site. And, frankly, I’m reasonably happy with Edge. Like I said, too old for this stuff!

AskWoody LoungerDid I not get the memo that said my XXX@live.com email (outlook) was going to be killed? As of today 3/15 it says “last updated 4 days ago”. I use Win version 1607.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 13, 2016 at 5:16 pm in reply to: Eight cumulative updates in ten weeks, and Win10 anniversary update still not baked #31741Wow, as an unpaid beta tester, a sad story, I have discovered that the Edge browser, MickeySoft’s own baby has made this site a security risk! “There is a problem connecting securely to this website
The security certificate presented by this website is not secure.
Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.
We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website.”
However Firefox seems not to know it. I hate this forced update crap! -

AskWoody LoungerI know I have said this before, but I have wushowhide installed and working and ConfigureAutomaticUpdates.exe installed. Based on the past, when I saw Defcon 2 I didn’t even check for updates, I just went on and worked. But at 1802 I got the dreaded “restart and update” message. Oh well, I’m now an unpaid Beta tester. The only difference I’ve seen so far is a little hard to explain. The previous update caused my screen short cut icons to act strangely. The little blue curved arrow in a white box would change to a white check mark in a green circle and then to a white x and then a little white block with what seemed like two people figures. This had no discernable pattern. Since the current update that has stopped. Any ideas?

AskWoody LoungerWhoo boy, now I am confused! Winver tells me I am on version 1607 (OS build 14393.222), but you are telling me that should be version 1611. Please help this old dummy! (I must be getting too old for this crap)

AskWoody LoungerOctober 1, 2016 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Win10 Anniversary Update 14393.222 slays many small bugs, but three biggies remain #33401I put this on the Facebook page last week, but nothing came of it.
I have the wushowhide plan installed. One morning, I hadn’t even checked for updates, but when I came back after lunch my computer wanted a re-start and sure enough I now have 14393.222 installed.
This evening I was using Edge and it locked up and said I had a virus, not to delete the page and to call a number. I just forced a shutdown and waited. However, when I came back to Edge the same thing happened. My Firefox is working just fine.
Any suggestions?
