Absolutely Insane!! My mortgage with taxes, insurance, etc. is not much more than 1/4 of that price tag.

For the extremely cautious or extremely paranoid, you could use KeePass on a flash drive to manage your passwords. I used to use this program. You can even set it up to where you have to have a separate dongle to access the database. Make sure you have a backups of this database and dongle if you go that route. Flash drives do fail.

    • I’m a big fan of Crowdstrike. Their tools are awesome. They continually update their Falcon platform and come out with new ways to protect your system. Our company are happy customers of their products. However, for most home users their software would be overkill and a bit expensive.

I am fortunate that I happen to have a locking mailbox. They are great.

Us on the East side of the mountains (Where this weather is the norm) in Washington (State) are poking fun at them with all sorts of memes. Perhaps in future years they will start planning for the snow. Global warming? Maybe. I won’t get in to that…

    • Your best bet is to check the manufacturer’s site for the latest BIOS release. I’ve found a few machines that had new firmware releases that were not widely announced.

    • Yep. The next time I build a custom machine I’ll probably go this route. I currently am using a Sandy Bridge i7 processor with 16 GB of DDR3  and a SSD for the OS drive. It’s still holding up well.

    • Switched from Windows 7 some time ago, saw the writing on the wall. It’s still in use within our company until we roll all machines out to Win 10. For home use, old OSes go to a virtual machine. I’ve thought about Linux as my main OS and having a virtual machine for Windows 10 but I’m not convinced that will work so well. Virtual machines are slower.

Just like no one should be running Windows XP at this point. Yet they are out there. Old phone systems, massage beds, entertainment systems, etc.

I’m not surprised Apple would have an overpriced computer. That has always been their model.

$3000 for an all-in-one PC?!! And that’s for the cheaper one. Who would buy one of these? I’ll pass.

    • in reply to: National Voter Registration Day #219835

That is a valid point. I wouldn’t want an individual to vote just to vote. I’d hope that an individual no matter which side you are on, would choose to participate. The saying (that I’ll cleanup a little) if you don’t vote you can’t complain comes to mind.

I like that Australia fines you if you don’t vote in their system. The US should do something similar.  It doesn’t solve the issue of non voting completely but it is a step in the right direction.

The article should be re-titled “Why Windows 10 Enterprise/Education is the most secure Windows ever.”
