Quicken 2011 has worked on every version of Windows since it came out am now on Windows 11 Pro.  Any version of Quicken prior to 2015 should work ok as long as you don’t need the download features for investments or banking.

install User/Data to a separate partition so an upgrade doesn’t clobber it[/COLOR].

I have been working with computers since 1977 and building all mine since 1985.
Always use a seperate harddrive for data and backed up weekly and keet 4 weekly copies.
The OS is backed up monthly or before making any significant change and kept for 6 months along with the first 3 copies of original installation with and without updates and hardware drivers.

Which linux distribution are you looking at? I like Mint with Cinnamon, Debian, and Fedora.

Mint with Cinnamon and Ubuntu 32 bit versions since I have plenty of older BIOS machines which max out with 2GB ram.
Since I am retired and no longer have use for the latest & greatest. I have a long way to go before I upgrade but I doubt I will need to do that, I think all machines will outlast me.
I do no social media except Windows Secrets.
I use a Gigabyte GA-7nnxp w/ 2gb ram and XPSP3 for most in house purposes.
      Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 w/ 4gb ram w/ Windows 7 for internet searches & downloads.
Office 2000 Std and Quicken 2003 still run on Windows 7. All other software is free third party that just keeps on tickin’.

Rhinoceros ….. I completely agree with you which is why I am learning Linux.
My information is mine and mine alone. I DO NOT do social media (other than Windows Secrets).
On an XP machine I only use Firefox and SeaMonkey. I am not in the habit of buying new equipment unless it is truly needed.
