Previews are beta versions of the patches that MS hopes you will test for them. I refuse to participate in that cost reduction scheme, they should hire testers to do that for me.

Or stick them all in a KeePass database on a USB stick. You can even include KeePass.
Give them the password in a sealed envelope, or email it to them via a service like Dead Man’s Switch.

while doing the update for .NET and cumulative update preview

Why are you installing previews? They are on my banned list.

Does it need to be unique every time? If so you need to store the used numbers somewhere – in a sheet that you don’t print. Then access and increment the number for each print.

It’s the “Zuckerberg” problem. You have given your data for a specific use and now the holder is selling it without considering what you might want. Personal data should be stored responsibly and used appropriately.

    • in reply to: Trying to backup Win 10 computer to iCloud #2767925

Encrypt the backup with your own password, then store it anywhere you like.

The downside with cloud storage is that it can take forever to upload several GB backup files – it’s quicker to download.
And you need a working computer to perform the download, instead of one that boots from a rescue USB and restores from external disk.

All you really need to do is watch the DEFCON rating and read the 1st post when it rises to 3 or above. Threads like this give you specific issue advice, which most people don’t need.

    • in reply to: Reviewing your licensing options #2766768

LTSC is only available when you buy a lot of licenses for your organisation. It is not available for individual purchase.

When you see ads for LTSC on the internet, they are selling “spare” licenses that a large organisation is “not using”. An audit may reveal that the license is actually being used and you have been sold an illegal license.

Have you restricted access to MS servers, maybe via the HOSTS file?
Does your AV restrict web access?

Can’t do that as the process is asynchronous and multi-threaded.

What are you trying to achieve?
