If you are still running Windows Media Center on either Windows 7 or 8.1 be careful. The monthly rollups break WMC. They contain a new ehtrace.dll file in C:\Windows\ehome. I get several error messages on Windows 7 (see attachment for example). Replacing the new ehtrace.dll file by the previous one apparently solves the issues (I will probably not do that because I do not want to mess with rights and take ownership. I hope that MS will solve this in the August updates). You can read more in this thread on TheGreenButton.

Thanks. I remember that the rule was that once registered and once posted there would be no moderation. But maybe I am just getting old and forgot that there also was a time limit.

I have not posted for a while, but this is the first time a post I write as a registered Plus member is awaiting moderation. Has something changed in the moderation policy that I missed?

The March updates for Windows 7 and 8.1 (both the cumulative and the security only updates) mess up Windows Media Center registry permissions. The result is that WMC starts with requesting it to be set up again and does so after every reboot. This thread on The Green Button discusses the issue and also has a solution by changing two registry permissions.

All links for this weeks Newsletter on the home page link to a wrong page. All of the links to the Plus newsletter link to the Free newsletter, and the one link to the Free newsletter results in a 404 error. I was able to read the Plus newsletter by accessing it via the top bar.

And yet again  there are security updates for Office 2010, for the 6th month in a row after EOL in October 2020! I am not complaining, because due to circumstances I have not been able to upgrade to a higher Office version yet.

      Neither am I 😉

Huh, that’s weird. I would expect that the month is language independent. I guess it’s not.

Thanks. I had just read that post and was editing mine because of it, as you wrote yours. However, “2021-10” for Windows Server 2008 R2 is definitely a typo (see attached picture in my previous post).

    • in reply to: March patching madness begins #2349338

These are the same .NET updates that have been released in February, but were rereleased yesterday. Maybe that is the explanation? However, this update appears as “2021-03” in WU, if you hadn’t installed it before.

I did notice an even weirder case though. KB4579977 in the catalogue: “2021-10” for Windows Server 2008 R2! Apparently MS can now time-travel 😉

For the 5th month in a row after EOL in October 2020, Office 2010 got updates again. Five security updates have been released. It makes me wonder why and how long they will continue doing this (if so). I thought that after 3 months MS would certainly stop, but no.

@abbodi86 I can confirm that I was able to install KB4592440 using your script. Thanks! I can now wait a few more months before upgrading to a newer Windows 10 version.

Does the script also install .NET updates? This month there was no .NET update, so I could not test that.

Thanks again for your help and your script!

Thank you abbodi86! I will certainly try it (probably tomorrow (Dutch time)) and report back. Thanks again!

Thanks for responding EP and abbodi86. I just tried that and it failed. After the reboot I got the message “We couldn’t complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don’t turn off your computer”. I will try one more time, but it would seem it is not possible.

Did you get it? My v1809 Pro system did not.
