I believe that to backup to a partition on the same hard disk you need to open the properties for that partition (d) and allow sharing. I’m not sure how you’re getting to your partition but when you see it-right click on it, open properties, sharing and click on share. Then try the back up again. If it doesn’t work you can go back in and turn off sharing.

    • Ted,
After I installed Win 8 over the enterprise eval I left Vista on the laptop for a few days and had a triple boot. It was only for 3 or 4 days but during that time I was able to boot into each system. Maybe MS could have deactivated one or all systems, but they didn’t in that short time period.

      Drew,
I have a hard time believing that anyone in this forum would advise you not to discuss anything with Bill or anyone else for that matter. I have read many of his posts, and while he does have some strong opinions, many of us do.
I believe there is no place in any tech forum for anyone as arrogant as you.

    • On my desktop computer I installed win 8 over win 7 hp. On my laptop running vista on partition 1, win 7 ultimate on partition 2 and win 8 enterprise eval on partition 3 I installed win 8 over the enterprise eval. I later uninstalled vista and now dual boot ultimate and win 8 with no ill effects. I realize this is not kosher and if I have to I will uninstall ultimate as I use 8 as my primary os. But so far everything works.

I would uninstall the win 8 version completely and download the desktop version, much easier to use and less intrusive. You can always get win 8 back from the app store later if you decide you want it.

If you go to file explorer through the power users menu (right click in lower left corner of desktop) or open through folder icon on task bar, network and also home group are in the left pane. At least they appear there on my desktop and laptop.

Time to end this thread. The differing views are evident throughout the win 8 forum. Everyone should just accept the disagreements and carry on as they choose. It will take time, possibly much time given current economic circumstances, to gauge win 8’s acceptance.

      Roy,
This might be of some help. It will change the name on your start screen but not on the file under users on your C drive.

      Clive,
You can install win 8 pro over Win 7 home premium. I’ve already done it.

The millions upon millions, if there are that many, can indeed have it just as easy. Windows 8 is not the least bit complicated. I think most users are smarter than they are getting credit for.

“That’s the only point that keeps getting missed. Implementation, not quality of the product.”

I personally don’t see any problem with implementation. Even with booting into metro it’s just 1 click or 1 touch of the keyboard to get to the desktop and everything’s there.

    • in reply to: File history issues #1362916

I found that when I reconnected my ext. drive and hit run under file history it copied everything over again, only faster than the 1st run. When I reconnect the drive and let file history run on it’s own schedule it seems to copy only changed files. I have it set to run every hour but sometimes it takes a while to start, probably due to the programs timing from it’s initial setup.

If you’re looking to swap out drives, memory, cards, etc. you would have to be extremely fast to do it during a restart.

Read that marmite is a by product of beer brewing. I get mine through Budweiser.

    • I find it hard to believe that someone who doesn’t understand the importance of imaging would have much luck installing a new hard drive.
