????? That should just get you to the Advanced Startup Page. What did you do to fix your problem?

      Jerry

Hi Jerry, I reinstalled win 8.1
There must be a better way, it’s like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut.
      Thanks

I use the @BleepingComputer download link in http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ and while Windows Smart Firewall (Win 7) warned that it wasn’t normally downloaded and could harm my computer, Norton 360 reported it as Safe and it ran without any problems after I used the Actions/More options in the warning to run it anyway.

Thank you for the quick reply. I turned off Action center (lowest setting) win 8.1 still blocking ADW

    • in reply to: Exploit.java/CVE-2012-1723 #1451476

Jimmy, don’t enable the Java plugin in your normal browser, access any legitimate sites that need Java from an alternative browser.

I suggest completely removing Java unless you really need it installed permanently. I’ve not had Java installed for more than 2 years, I’ve never missed it.

Consider increasing your website blocking tactics, I use hpHosts, installed and updated automatically by HostsMan. This works system-wide yet can be temporarily blocked in just a few clicks, should you need to access a blocked site or test a bad connection.

Thank I will try your suggestions
