      Hi
Ok I will keep trying… To recap
Hotmail/Yahoo/Bigpond block my Optusnet emails when using preferred Outlook 2019, so I am looking to migrate to “safe” Gmail.
IMAP doesn’t reject my gmail password but many flaws in Outlook – see my post of 22 May.
So I tried POP with App Password and 2-step (gmail has confirmed I have done both)
      Normal gmail POP settings are:
      Incoming: pop.gmail.com  Untick SPA, Port=995, Encrypt: SSL/TLS
      Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com  Port: 587, Encrypt: SSL/TLS
I keep getting Outlook error: “Your email server rejected your login… 185833” – see attached
Google says 185833 relates to “Gmail 2-Step verification is enabled”
So I am going around in circles.
      Any help gravely appreciated.

      Hi all

Thanks for your help, but after trying all suggestions, my password for gmail pop is still rejected, so I have conceded. I will stick to my old isp optusnet, which doesn’t reject, and just hope they will eventually stop yahoo, hotmail and bigpond from stopping my emails.

      Hi oldfry

I have your exact settings for gmail pop, in addition to 2-step and App Password.

I have started a new account several times, but still password blocked. Any suggestions?

Gmail IMAP doesn’t reject password, but has many other problems as outlined above.
I would just like gGmail pop to not reject my correct password, whether normal password or App Password. I have done 2-step verification.

My old settings which work (but my emails are blocked by hotmail, yahoo and bigpond) are:
Incoming: mail.optusnet.com.au, Port=110, Untick SPA, No encryption

My new settings for gmail POP which are rejected are:
      Incoming: pop.gmail.com, Port=995, Untick SPA, Encrypt SSL/TLS

The main error message when I do send-receive for my gmail pop is till the 185833 one for incoming email.
But latest error message is: “Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method.”
I use gmails recommended “SSL/TLS” for incoming and outgoing.

      I googled and found: https://support.google.com/mail/thread/4477145/no-app-passwords-under-security-signing-in-to-google-panel?hl=en

which said to go to: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords

Good news: This allowed me to set up a new App Password, back at “how you sign in to google”

Bad news: When I used it to try to set up a new gmail pop password, the password is still rejected. I feel I am getting close! Any advice please?

      Hi

I still can’t find “App passwords”. See attached 2 photos of entire 2-step screen. I have been stuck here a few times.

      Thanks

      Hi
      Thanks for help so far.
I have Outlook 2019, which works fine for my Optusnet account (apart from being blocked by hotmail, yahoo, bigpond which is why I want to migrate to gmail pop).
I have gone into Gmail/settings and have pop=enabled and imap=disabled (I did this previously)… back to Outlook, but it still rejects password. I also tried by control panel and mail, but still rejects password.
I noticed in outlook error, it mentions:
      https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833
which refers to App Passwords, so it seems App Passwords is the problem.

So I logged into gmail, then clicked my initials at top right, then “Manage your Google Account”, then Security, then clicked on “2-step verification – On since May 10”, and I re-checked 2-step is on.
But I can’t see anywhere on next screen or prior screen about App Password.
All I could see of note was:
“skip password when possible” – set to on
-“password” – not app password, and it seems basic password change, nothing fancy
      -“passkeys and security keys”
      -“Authenticator”
-“manage enhanced safe browsing” – currently off.
      … but no App Passwords.
Any suggestions on how to set an App Password?

      … also

-I tried Control Panel, “Mail (outlook 32-bit)” but same password rejection… maybe because I have Win 11 64-bit?

-I am too afraid to delete my only working Outlook account (Pop3, but near-obsolete ISP called Optusnet) because I may have same password problem if I then try to add it as a new Outlook account.

      Hi
      I have MS Outlook 2019 which I assume isn’t old. I have Windows 11.

I tried your suggestion previously but no luck. I already had 2-factor authentication set up.

Your suggestion assumes IMAP (you have to manually create account to get POP3).
IMAP doesn’t have password problem, but IMAP was a nightmare, and it took days to recover to revert back to original POP state.
      Problems with IMAP include:
-repeated and very long synchronizing, slowing down send-receives
-random deleting of files in folders – I had to retrieve them from my pst backup.
-storing OST file in a hard to access location c:\Users\sidr\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook… where AppData is a hidden folder
-if account deleted, OST file becomes an “orphan”, and can’t be re-added to a new account.
-if I right-click on account, select IMAP folder, Query, then it showed a huge list of folders, mainly subfolders of Trash folder.
If I try to “unsubscribe” any/all of Trash folder list, Outlook hangs with top 1/3 of screen blank. I then have to reboot ~5 times to get my pc working again.

Because IMAP is so bad, I just want simple gmail to POP3 (with no sync or ost files), but when I tried POP it rejected my password: “we couldn’t log on to the incoming (POP) server. Please check your email address and password and try again.”
