AskWoody PlusThe article is wrong in that this doesn’t give you the “current” product key, just the key that the machine shipped with. So if you upgraded from 10 Home to 10 Pro for example, the key these commands return will be the original Home key.

Windows 11 24H2 is not yet out to the general public (aka. general availability) until sometime in the 2nd half of 2024.
24H2 is currently in the release preview channel for Windows insidersjust need to remind everyone (including Susan) that 24H2 is not officially out yet
I know that 24H2 isn’t out yet, the point I was making is that feature updates don’t stay optional forever, they need to be installed eventually to stay in support.

AskWoody PlusI just use a headless USFF Dell PC in my comms cabinet for my file storage. Runs Windows so should be no issue thankfully.

AskWoody PlusLuckily 24H2 is not forced to be installed. It is an optional update.
I have chosen not to install on my main PCFor now, yes. You’ll have until November 2025 before 23H2 goes out of support.

AskWoody PlusJune 4, 2024 at 4:14 am in reply to: Why Can’t Robots Click The “I’m Not a Robot” Box On Websites? #2677834I’ve come across a few other types recently. There’s one on Chinese sites which uses a slider and then prompts to align an object in the same direction as in a provided photo. Another one (I think on LinkedIn) was similar – rotate an illustration of an animal to the correct orientation.

AskWoody PlusJune 4, 2024 at 3:43 am in reply to: Not sure why, but was updating a thread of my and got Wordfenced. #2677833This happened to me not too long ago when trying to edit a typo in a post. I think if you edit a post too quickly after creating it, the site will trash the post or require mod approval. Probably an anti-spam measure.

AskWoody PlusI am not panicking. For the moment, this is an opt-in technology that will not be enabled by default.
Recall is enabled by default.
From what I’ve read, it only works on the ARM port. Is the Recall code in the x86 version at all?

AskWoody PlusJune 4, 2024 at 3:21 am in reply to: WhoisThisDomain — Where is that great deal coming from? #2677831One thing to note about making judgements of sites based on their lack of WHOIS data is that WHOIS was considered incompatible with European Union GDPR laws, so pretty much any EU WHOIS will be redacted. It doesn’t mean that the site is shady, but I do accept that it makes it more difficult to determine if it is or not. In the case of HIKE, their WHOIS claims that they’re based in The Netherlands (hence the redaction), but a quick Google seems to return mixed reviews of them.

AskWoody PlusIf your system is fully up to date on 22H2, you can go to 23H2 by installing the enablement package:
It only takes a few minutes and one reboot.

AskWoody Plus10/10 here too. I didn’t know them all (most of the Linux stuff) but made some educated guesses!

AskWoody Plus0x80070422 is ERROR_SERVICE_DISABLED – the Chrome update service might have been disabled at the time. Glad you have it working now though.

AskWoody PlusBear in mind that some sound systems, especially Bluetooth ones, take a while to wake up. On these, you may not hear the ding because they haven’t fully woken up by the time the sound has finished playing.

AskWoody PlusMay 16, 2024 at 4:14 am in reply to: VMware Workstation Pro, Fusion Pro: Now Available Free for Personal Use #2672026Probably the only good thing to come from the Broadcom acquisition! I have a fully paid licence for the current version (17) for my own home use, but it’ll be nice not to have to pay for upgrades now.
