    • Perplexity CEO says its browser will track everything users do online to sell ‘hyper personalized’ ads

Reading between the lines it seems unlikely Perplexity is the only AI engine that is tracking everything all the time.

    • I’ve also learned that ‘shorter is better’… and ‘thicker is better’.

I try to buy thicker certified cables, preferably encased with braided metal.

Some great points. Over the years I’ve collected a mishmash of USB cables. It’s high time I sorted them out!

    • It is mounted in an external dock and connected to a USB 3.2 port on my desktop PC.

Besides testing with a different port that Rick Corbett suggested above, ensure the USB cord you are using is also rated USB 3.2.

This folder (inetpub) should not be deleted regardless of whether Internet Information Services (IIS) is active on the target device

This is true. Initially I and I think a few others deleted the inetpub folder, but I changed my mine about it and found it can be correctly re-created following the steps outlined in this bleepingcomputer link. The nested files under inetpub can ALSO be correctly deleted that includes a reboot.  It worked perfectly.

    • Check the start up items in taskmanager.

For a deeper dive checking startup apps, try Sysinternals Autoruns. I’ll occasionally find an app that does not show in task manager. Click on “logon” to see what is started on boot.

The ‘cloud’ — to me, anyway — is someone elses computer/server(s).

You are correct.  Yet there is safe upside to the cloud. Used correctly it will protect all digital assets from any natural disaster. If your house burns down, you stuff is safe.

What is the brand and size of your SSD and the brand of external drive enclosure?

    • You will have the option to create an account with one of our credential service providers, Login.gov or ID.me.

I’ve been getting SS for a while, but I updated my login credential service a about 4 months ago via Login.gov.  It’s a bit of a job but worth it for the POM.

You’ll get a bunch of long one-time use codes to use if your locked out.  I printed them out and put on a thumb drive.
