Great article. I installed JV16 Power Tools 2012 (paid version) earlier this year at your suggestion on this site. I have found that the registry cleaner and optimization features have improved my startup/shutdown and operations noticeably on all my home PCs. Worth every penny. The duplicate file finder feature is also handy.

Excellent article. Thank you Fred. I seem to remember another article here saying reg cleaners weren’t necessary . You have proven that wrong. I use regmedic but it seems largely not supported now. Emails to customer support are not returned.

I’m sure there is validity to your article(s) but I’ll stick with my paid for anti virus and firewall solution because I’d rather not trust MS with my PC’s security. The old adage … of putting all the eggs in one basket. 🙂 Otherwise though thanks for some though provoking ideas.
