It must be there for you surely? Both my home and work Outlook 2000 have it, and they are configured in the two different ways.

    • in reply to: Creating a list of email addresses from a folder (2000) #723616

Many, many thanks. I hadn’t thought of that. The import/export facility is certainly a lot more sophisicated that I thought, while still being fairly simple.
A supplementary question: Now I’ve got my csv or txt file of email addresses, is there a quick way of de-duping them to produce a list of unique addresses?

      Sure appreciate any guidance.

    • in reply to: Sorting emails – unread and read (97-2000) #707229

Well I’ll be darned! I’d spent ages analysing the ‘field chooser’ options (you can add the ‘read’ status to the column, but you can’t sort by it), but I never thought of the ‘View’ option. Thanks!

    • in reply to: Licence nos – which product do they relate to? #678725

Many thanks, that’s a great help.
Also, I think I’ve been confusing ‘licence no.’ with ‘product key’.

    • in reply to: What does POP3 error 1232 mean? #678612

I can’t find a way of altering the time out. It’s not in the pop3 connector on Exchange, and my isp says it isn’t adjustable for the mail server, I should adjust it at my end…
oh well, at least it hasn’t recurred for three weeks now!

    • in reply to: What does POP3 error 1232 mean? #672806

Thanks, I didn’t think to look in the newsgroups! According to one entry, the 1232 error is due to network problems (e.g. clogged network).
But that doesn’t square with my experience, which is that it almost always happens only with my email, very occasionally with one other persons on the mailserver for that domain, and it’s never happened with any other of the mailboxes. The other mailboxes will gaily go on receiving normal email, while my email box receives the same two or three or four emails again and again and again, because when the problem starts, it never seems to acknowledge finishing downloading my email box, but simply moves on to the next one!

    • in reply to: Online web equivalents of Outlook (98 / 2000 / 2002) #668514

There was no reply to this post I made late last year. But for completeness’s sake, just thought I’d mention a solution I found recently. It’s http://www.contactoffice.com. I haven’t used it yet, but it claims to offer pretty much all that Outlook does, on a subscription basis.

    • in reply to: deleting unwanted views (2000) #662737

Many thanks for your contribution. Efforts much appreciated.
Unfortunately I don’t think I’m capable of knowing how to install, let alone use, the code.
I guess the effective answer to my question is ‘no, there’s no way you can reduce the size of the drop-down list’!

    • in reply to: A brilliant idea for Windows desktops #661047

Well, yes, the ‘product suggestion’ link was the black hole I alluded to. The problem is, there’s no feedback from that particular input, save for a form reply of thanks. I’m not looking for reward or appreciation – rather, I wanted to be sure that they understand what I’m driving at. Unlike here on WOPR, where at least I had a second bite of explaining myself – although I suppose on WOPR it’s perhaps an audience more sympathetic and understanding than influential!

    • in reply to: A brilliant idea for Windows desktops #660704

I was familiar with Program Manager (mostly forgotten about it now). However, it’s limited to icons, and you can thrust windows off the side, amongst other things. My ‘corrals’ would have full windows open in them, and they’d have ‘hard edges’ so you’d be unable to accidentally move a window partially off-screen. And they’d be more or less invisible (unless you switched on the gridlines) and wouldn’t take up any space such as title bars or menus. Oh, and you’d be able to write in the ‘sand’ floor of the corral, allowing you to keep notes.

Another idea is they would gradually fade out windows that were behind other windows (Z-order, is that the name?) so you could tell roughly how far away from the top a window is.

Incidentally, is there a public forum where one can make these sort of ‘wishlist’ suggestions? I don’t suppose this is the right place, is it? I’ve tried emailing ideas in the past to Microsoft, but it’s a black hole – you get a token acknowledgement, but never any helpful feedback (unlike here!)

      Cheers
      Andrew
