Did you download and install “Shell Object Editor”?
If so, run the program – it should show an empty list initially because it is not in “Expert Mode” by default.
Right-click in the window, select “Expert Mode”.
Do NOT change or delete any entry.
      Please post the resulting screenshot.

      No (extra) drivers needed.

      o Delete the file WindowsinfINFCACHE.1
      o Restart Computer
o Insert USB stick directly into USB port

Maybe you have to try another USB port

SFC won’t help because it does not address the problem.

      But just in case…
In the registry, the (XP) pruduct key should be located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion
The number is listed under ProductId

Product key and Product ID are different things.

You may wish to google for “hp driver removal” (without the quotes)
or search HP’s FAQ and knowledge base.

May 6, 2010 at 3:10 pm in reply to: Screen Resolution Breaks Computer? #1222398

Does the following procedure (in EXACTLY that order) work?

      0) turn off monitor and computer
      1) pull the power plug off of the computer
      2) if the computer has a power switch on the rear side switch it from 1 to 0
      3) press (and hold for a few seconds) the on-switch on the front
      4) repeat step 3)
      5) plug in the power cord
      6) switch rear switch from 0 to 1 (if applicable)
      7) turn on the monitor
      8) reset the monitor to its factory defaults via on-screen-display
      9) turn on the computer
      10) while booting, press the F8-key to enter the boot menu
      11) select safe mode
