I already know how to customize the Ribbon but in this particular case I wanted it on a QAT button, to maintain consistency with Word & Excel (wherein I have added a similar button to their QAT’s). I had thought that the add-in would work basically the same way in PPT as in Excel, but in the case of PPT, I do get the button on the QAT but it can’t find the macro. Is there no way to do this?

Thanks for the info Steve & Rory…I’ll look into that…I thought Excel would work the same as Word as regards startup templates, but obviously not 🙂

I need to deploy it to everyone on the network, so I thought a startup template would be the best way to go…we can just copy the file to everyone’s Excel startup folder at next login.

So simple, why didn’t I think of that…thanks so much…I just added code to open a blank doc if none were open and it works perfectly.

There is a new feature in Word 2007 called Content Controls that would probably give you want you need. In Word help, search for Content Controls, you should see an article “Create forms that users complete in Word”. It describes creating a template and inserting the various types of content controls.

It’s worth testing. When Word accesses the file, Windows may consider that to be opening the file. If not, perhaps there is another file access event that gives you what you need.

I asked our network guy to check it out and apparently it does log it, so many thanks for the great suggestion…sure saved me a lot of work!

Yes, the templates are in a shared folder on the server. But they would be doing a File>New, not a File>Open, so do you think the file auditing could still work?

Hi Hans,

Here’s the zip file with mini versions of the Word & Excel docs. I’d just like to open both docs, position the cursor on the next blank row in the Excel file, then run the macro that copies the data from the bookmark in the Word doc.

I’m just trying to avoid retyping all the data. I tried recording the keystrokes, but of course it doesn’t capture switching to the Word doc, going to the bookmark, and then switching back to Excel again, and when pasting, it only captured the specific cell reference, rather than the next cell on whatever row I happen to be on.

Any help would be much appreciated.
