Irfanview would be #1 choice. I have used this since the Year Dot when I’ve needed to do something quickly. It is also great at batch editing too. It used to fit on a floppy disk! Still works a treat although Picasa offers most of what I need and makes for efficient online co-ordination. Serif PhotoPlus is inexpensive (I get a free education copy) and very easy to learn if you need lots of extra features.

I haven’t added links as someone may have already covered these but the thread looks complicated further down so I stopped scrolling. All simple enough to find though. Good luck.

    • in reply to: Office 2007 fonts #1240124

Thanks JoeP. I found a free trial edition of Office 2010 on their US site and, during the installation of that, got the notification to uninstall the beta. Now that seems to have brought back the printing of those fonts again, which is nice, but as they were Office 2007 ones, and my copy of that is legit, it’s a bit odd that they weren’t printing just because a beta expires!

So I’m still not sure whether it was the beta expiry, and whether uninstalling that would have worked but my guess is you’re right!

I expect I’ll find out in n days’ time!

Have to say I’m surprised more people haven’t wondered about this as uninstalling stuff is not what many users (other than us lot here) would think about doing. Suppose they just bought the new one straightaway.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. It’s pretty neat and straightforward to apply too. I’ve already started to think of a few other applications I might adapt it for. Very, very grateful.

    • in reply to: DDE link for Excel mail merge (W95 Office2000 9.0.2720) #618838

Thanks for the reply, Phil. It’s now Saturday this side of the pond so I’m not at the PC with the software that is causing all the trouble. I suspect that on Monday IT Services will have taken the box away and simply reformat and hope it all works fine when reinstalled! It may be that that is the sensible solution but I would really like to know how to revive a DDE link and to understand why it ceased to function. I teach this stuff (OK at a pretty modest level) and like to be able to answer others’ queries. I have learned something new from you for which I am grateful. I’d looked at this before posting but hadn’t read all the way through! Another solution thathad come to mind was to transfer the Excel data into word as a table and use Word’s own ‘mail’merge feature. It occurs to me that this cannot surely be a Method3!! I guess it’s a variation of one of your two. Interested to know what you think and any further thoughts on DDE welcome. Cheers. Incidentally, I’m not a New Lounger – I’ve even replied to a few but must have got lost. It was a while ago.
