Well, Joe, that was what we had. But it happened anyway. This makes me very wary of Windows. We were going to order a new custom built machine today. We are now putting it off and deciding if we want to go the Apple route. Yes, we will have to get the Apple versions of our expensive software, but this is pirating our machine and that is just not acceptable under any circumstances.

There was no EULA that I know of. It was turned off overnight and started at startup only to finish itself. No one else has access to the machine. I had the machine set to not do any updates. I guess Microsoft does what it wants. Now to find out if Adobe Creative Suite 4, AutoCAD and all my other architectural software is compatible. I am considerably less than a happy camper.

      Thank you so much!!!! bravo

Nope. Full edition. It is an academic edition, though as I am also a professor. I know it is valid as I got it either from http://www.JourneyEd.com or http://www.CCVSoftware.com I don’t remember which as I don’t remember when I got it. I used Journey Ed until I found out that CCV was much cheaper.

Been there, done that. And I didn’t get the t-shirt hairout . That would have been way too simple. bummer Microsoft must take pride in making things difficult sometimes.

Thanks. I will do that tomorrow. Who knows?

Thanks. Mission accomplished. Now I just hope that First Class comes back as my default client. That usually takes a few tries, but I am way too familiar with that scenario. sigh It is a great e-mail client but, like them all, has a few bugs that just don’t seem to go away.

Thanks. It worked. I should have thought of that. Senior moment. brainwash

Not at the moment. I guess I will be patient and wait the few hours. It’s really no big deal, but I just figured that if anyone would know if there was a utility to do this, they would be members here anigrin

But there is a good thing about this. Now when I travel, I will know that I need to save it in the other format which I did not know before. So next time I am across the country at one of my kids’ homes I won’t be out in the cold!

      Thanks again,

I never even realized that you could do the sort by name with a right click. I am a right clicking fool bananas but never looked that far down. And yes, occasionally the order of links reset themselves alphabetically. It is a pain but really no big real. I think this is when there is a patch or something or somehow or another things get “cleared”. It usually happens concurrently with a loss of history, etc. I just redrag them back to where I want them on my links toolbar and chalk it up to gremlins.

    • in reply to: Reminder problem (Outlook 2003) #969377

Sorry for the delay. I do dog rescue and was gone all weekend transporting dogs all over the east coast. I just had to attach the picture of one of them as he is so cute and so happy to be rescued from the hell hole of a high kill shelter where he was.

I found the inbox repair tool and ran it. (Why I could not find it with a search is still beyond me but that is not important). It found much corruption and I asked it to fix the problem. (I had been regularly exporting my pst file to an external hard drive so I knew I had nothing to lose). After I ran it I did a cold reboot. When I reopened Outlook I tried to export the repaired file and the whole thing locked up on me. I sighed and closed it and rebooted. I quickly opened Outlook to get the info on a contact I needed for rescue (before the reminders would pop up) and then closed it out. Over the weekend I did at least 2 cold reboots but did not open Outlook either time.

As I was driving dogs all over yesterday I was thinking about this and I was planning on crying “help” help again today. But it seems it is not necessary. Last night, I had to open Outlook to get more contact information. Upon opening it asked me to choose a pst file (it had not done this before) and I clicked on Outlook pst. It was open long enough for reminders to pop up. I figured what the hay and tried to snooze and dismiss some of the more nasty ones – I knew the worst thing that would happen is that I had to close it in task manager.
Low and behold, they dismissed and snoozed like they are supposed to. clapping I was in a bit of shock and figured that maybe just maybe… but refused to hope that it would happen again. This morning I reopened Outlook (without rebooting) and my reminders popped up. I once again snoozed a formerly nasty one and it worked again.

John, you are my hero. Now, if you could only do something about the idiot dog person I know, who just moved to New Orleans last month, and who decided to ride Katrina out with his 5 dogs (3 which he adopted from us and 2 which he is fostering) well, I would be a happy camper. I only hope I do not have to delete his contact from Outlook. sad

I can not find the inbox repair tool. I looked all over, tried putting the name in Start->Run and then did a search of my machine for it. I can not find it. Where would this be located?
      Thanks,

    • in reply to: Reminder problem (Outlook 2003) #969071

Thanks for your reply, John. Yes, Outlook is being used on a standalone machine and only for Calendar, no emails. When Outlook hangs, the second instance will appear in the Application Tab, but only one process in Processes Tab. There is no PDA sync software installed. We’ll try to run Inbox repair tool and see if it can fix a problem.

      Thanks again.

    • in reply to: Firefox (ver1.0.3) Hijack? (IE 6.0 – all updates) #943172

The Google Bar for Firefox tries to predict what I will be asking for. I start to type something in it and it drops down to give me suggestions. I know this is the experimental feature Google Suggest but I can not seem to turn this off. I try in the options part of the tool bar, and untick the box, but it still suggests. hairout I have removed and reinstalled the Google Bar twice and it still “suggests”. I wouldn’t mind having the Suggest feature if I did not have to click the drop down box to get rid of the suggestions before it lets me type another letter into the search box. It is type and click and type and click and type and click ad infinitum. What a royal pain in the butt. bummer.

I mainly use the Google Bar for searching a site, images and Froogle. AFAIK, I can not use the Firefox built in Google search feature for that. So I am stuck with the Google Bar for those searches. And since I seem not to be able to turn off the Suggest feature it is a real pain. What I am currently doing is typing what I want into the built in search box and then copy and pasting it into the Google Bar to do the kind of search I need.

I have reinstalled Firefox because I can not get IE back as my default browser. I am still waiting on my friend to do the registry for me. He has been exhausted and comes home from work (he works 7 days a week) , we eat dinner and he is off to bed. Maybe sometime soon. Or not. shrug Anyone want to come to Long Island and mess with my registry? tongue

    • in reply to: LINKS Buttons (IE 6) #942821

AFAIK, just drag them on the links bar itself. That is what I did. Unless I misunderstood your question.
