    • in reply to: Firefox (ver1.0.3) Hijack? (IE 6.0 – all updates) #942712

You wrote: Somewhere in IE’s options there is a checkbox to see if it is the default browser when you start it up. It should then repair all the references in the registry to browser-related functions to refer to IE.

I have tried that. Numerous times. It is just not working. Nothing I am doing is working. Even going into file types and checking the ALWAYS OPEN WITH box does not do it. Hopefully my friend will get to the registry for me tonight or tomorrow and he will be able to fix it.

What Fred Langa wrote just let me go back to using IE without feeling like too much of a sucker blush. I absolutely HATE the Google bar in Firefox and I use it all the time. That and EBay and a number of games which are not supported in Firefox are the reason why I am switching back. I still have the .exe file to reinstall Firefox (I save all my install – .exe files), and I will reinstall it – but not as my default browser. I have too much trouble with E-Bay with FIrefox and clicking on E-Bay links in e-mails is something that is a regular part of my day. But I do not want to reinstall Firefox until the registry is cleaned of the prior install. I remember when I installed it, it asked me if I wanted to make it my default browser. This time I will tick the box for NO. I had previously reinstalled it and the default browser question was noticably missing. I hope it is because it is already set in the registry and once I get it out it will once again ask me the question. (Hope springs eternal).

I am just really disillusioned with my inability to get the browser out. It really feels like a hijack to me and that is why I posted.

(Hey – how come the word “browser” is not recognized in the spell check question.)

      Thank you so much!!!

OK – I took out names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses to protect the guilty and made a file of the first 10% or so of the handbook. Hopefully the picture I am speaking about is still on it. (It takes up almost the whole page after the TOC – I had to work bummer to get the TOC to spill onto another page so I could put the picture in and you guys could play with it). SInce it is way way way way way larger than 100 K (1.8MGS!) I can not post it here but I did upload it to my personal website. Click here to open it.

Thanks so much for all the help you are trying to give me.
      Best,

I think it is out of the TOC as the style box says normal. It still just disappears. I guess what I will eventually do is publish it in PDF and let them print it from that. I just want to know how to do this. Once my curiosity is peaked I get a bee in my bonnet and… scratch

I tried the section break and it did nothing. I am keeping on trying. I am persistent and will find some way to do this. confused3

I just tried it as you said and it lost the image again. (I had formerly had it as “Behind Text”). This is really frustrating. Not that I can not easily put the image back in, it is just that I can not get it to stay. I would attach the file but it is kind of proprietary so … and to just attach the TOC will make it an “error bookmark not defined jubliee” .

Thanks so very much for the info. I will file this for next time. What I ended up doing is pasting the offending text into Notepad and then pasting that back. All the nasties are gone! Yippee. Learing about ^l is a good thing. (And the ascii code as well)

      Thanks again!

Thanks for the quick reply. Much appreciated. It is now forever off my system. (Sure – like Microsoft would make it so easy. Let’s see for how long it stays off)

I finally got the nerve to try and do this and it just told me that windows can not modify the drive letter of the system volume or the boot volume. I guess that means an f-disk then, huh? bash
