OK – I’l check. But I haven’t deliberately done that, so I assume it’s OK.

As I said above, the Win 8 PC does see the homegroup – right up until it tries to connect with my password. Then I get “Windows no longer detects a Homegroup network at this location”.

I do hope you are not referring to my installation with all this stuff.

Personally, I have been involved with MS-Windows since V1-0, With NT since v 3.1 beta (I have worked for DEC/Compaq/HP since 1986) and I have been a developer of apps/drivers/O’S’s as well (there was some of my code in Data General’s RDOS, if anyone goes back that far).

This install of Windows 8 was deliberately done as an upgrade from Windows 7 – on my test machine – so I could evaluate the upgrade long before I did it to my personal home PC.

Now, back to the original topic – what can I do to get gadgets going? Right click on the desktop, click Gadgets and nothing happens.

OK, so the potential is there. So, what happened to mine? I did an update from Windows 7 and they were there before.

      Good possibility.

I’ve only got IP V4 at home. Win 7 talks OK to Win7.

Thanks Both – lots to digest.

I was just playing. I do use Homegroup to share folders between my other PCs, so I just tried it here and it didn’t work. No ideas why.

I do understand “real” networking (I’ve been in this business since the early ’70’s) but I’m lazy!!!!

Thanks Ted. Once again, I am amazed at MS’s arrogance – assuming we only want to use one app at once. My desktop (normal one) has a minimum of 12 windows open at any one time (I just counted) and sometimes many more and I may need to see 2 or more on my screen at the same time.

So, next question – how do I disable Metro and get the normal desktop as my default?

When I tried it that way (Virtual Box), I got the same error message. Ignored it and Windows 8 then did a BSOD on me when trying to load up.

So, I gave up and used another PC to do the install.

      Thank you again.

Yes, it is a culture shock. As one who started with DOS 1.1 (I never saw 1.0) and grown up with all the incarnations of Windows, this is the biggest change I have seen. I will ready through the posts and start learning.

Thank you. But why should I have to do this?
I’ll have a rant later about the whole Metro concept – but I cannot see businesses accepting this at all. And consumers will run scared unless they have come up from a Metro phone or tablet.

    • in reply to: Removing multiple hyperlinks from a document? #1326019

I have fixed it with your help above. There was a hyperlink embedded inside a box underneath a diagram (or inside it). It was removable manually by deleting the object. But you couldn’t get to the object itself to remove the hyperlink.

The reason to remove them? They pointed to pages on the internet – which means offline reading was no good. So, I’m redoing it all.

Anyway, problem solved and it’s full steam ahead again. Once again, many thanks for your help.

      regards

I have no idea. I can delete them manually. Let me have a look and see if there is one in a text frame or picture or something weird.

      Thanks

I spoke too soon. I’m gettin a run time error – “method delete of object Hyperlink failed”

More info. It appears to have deleted about 100 of them, but there are still about 1400 left. I have tried to manually delete the first few that I have found, but it still fails with the same message.
