Which version of Excel and do you have any hidden columns, or around 8000 discontiguous rows due to the filter?

Excel 2003. There are no hidden columns and only a few rows currently.
The filtered data was originally from an external source, but this shouldn’t make any
      difference should it? Andy.

Is it any better if you use:

      Code:
      Range("A1").CurrentRegion.Copy Sheets("Calculation").Range("A4")

      instead?

Immediate response! But no, I tried that already. Andy.

Can you attach a sample workbook?

Thanks for your response. I managed to resolve this by creating a calculated criteria that uses ‘=D9=”ALPHA”‘. I assume this is a microsoft bug/feature as it should work with a simple criteria ‘ALPHA’. Andy.

    • in reply to: Create a Master for Charts #1159764

I think you’ll have to copy the chart and use paste special to paste it as a background image (not as a chart).

Thank you. What I want to achieve is to have a slide master that includes a chart, so that someone can insert a new slide, then go to Slide Design and apply this new master. Andy.

    • in reply to: Break a Diagram #1159738

That depends entirely on what kind of diagram it is. If it is a bitmap graphic then you have no chance!

Where did this diagram come from?

      Sorry I wasn’t clear. I meant a Powerpoint diagram, via Insert/ Diagram.
Actually, I managed to answer this myself. I had to save it as a picture, re-insert it and then Draw/ Ungroup it (twice).
      Thanks anyway, Andy.

    • in reply to: What are revisions #1157020

      Sorry, I misunderstood.

The revisions toolbar is normally used after you send a presentation for review with File > Send To > Mail Recipient for Review, but you can use it with Tools > Compare and Merge documents.

      Thanks again.

    • in reply to: What are revisions #1156900

The PowerPoint 2003 reviewing toolbar allows you to add, edit and delete comments, and to go to the next and previous comments.

Thank you for your response, although I am referring to the “Revisions” toolbar. Andy.

    • in reply to: Perfect background image #1156899

The default size of a slide is 10″ x 7.5″. If you use a photograph as background it will probably be a .jpg file. PowerPoint uses the print size of the .jpg file which depends on the dpi setting, and which may be different from the screen displsay size of the .jpg file in other applications if the dpi setting is different from that used by Windows. So it becomes rather complicated.

All bitmap-type pictures(.bmp, .png, .gif., .jpg) will show pixelation when enlarged. If you want to be able to enlarge a picture smoothly, it needs to be a vector graphic – see Vector graphics – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Thank you. It occurred to me that the image should be the same size as the screen resolution but, as you suggest, it’s a little more complicated than this. Andy.

I’d uninstall Windows Defender, then download the latest version from Windows Defender: Home Page and reinstall it.

      Thanks, Andy.

    • in reply to: Unable to open google maps #1154680

Silverlight doesn’t seem very likely since it’s from Microsoft itself.

I don’t know whether Google Maps uses Flash, but you’ll find out easily enough if you uninstall it…

I disabled all plug-ins and even turned off my anti-virus/ firewall system for a few minutes, but am still unable to complete the loading of page ‘maps.google.com’. Any other ideas?! Andy.

    • in reply to: Unable to open google maps #1154370

Any other browser add-ins such as the Google toolbar? If so, see if disabling them makes a difference.

I have plug-ins for Office 2007, 2003, Acrobat, Mozilla Default, Shockwave Flash, Silverlight and Windows Presentation Foundation.
I’ll disable each in turn over a period of time, although do you have a suspicion as to which is most likely to be the culprit? Silverlight? Thanks, Andy.

      Do you have Skype installed?

No, I don’t have Skype. (I also find that the page freezes when I submit a post to this lounge, but then find if I close my browser and re-open it that the post has been sent.) Andy.

    • in reply to: Cannot load MS (Mozilla Firefox) #1143589

Hi. I haven’t changed my default browser, but I have Recovered my laptop. I still can’t access any microsoft sites. (I thought recovering a laptop would solve most problems?).
Anyway, I think I’ll now consider it a minor issue – although if it still doesn’t enable me to update my anti-virus software then this will become a more significant issue..
      Thanks, Andy.

    • in reply to: Cannot load MS (Mozilla Firefox) #1143145

Hi. Nothing in the Hosts file apart from localhost address. I can’t currently update my PC Tools anti-virus software either. Slightly concerning. Andy.

    • in reply to: Create CommandBars (2007) #1142004

Thank you. I was also considering creating a UserForm with a number of command buttons on it. I believe I can show it at startup in Word, make it a suitable size, make it non-modal, etc.. Can you forsee anything wrong with this approach? Andy.
