    • Is there a way to manually print a single screen from the PowerPoint viewer? The user I’m working with said she was not able to do this (I have the full version on my PC so it’s kind of hard to test).

    • I didn’t even try! I knew the macro call to a specific printer would be an immediate problem, so thought I would post the question out here before trying to move ahead.

So today two users were using the printer and for no apparent reason it started printing in landscape for both users of that printer. I’m beginning to think this is a goofy printer issue, but it IS odd that it only started popping up AFTER they upgraded to Office 2K.

Right. But I was just checking the properties out to see if they affected the problem and they didn’t seem to.
I can go into Word, go to File Print, set the number of copies to 2 in that dialog box and when I go to IE it will try to print two copies.

That’s what’s odd. The settings are only being changed in the Print dialogue box from within the Office app, not from the printer properties. I played with the printer properties separately and that doesn’t seem to have any effect on the strange behavior.

Actually, you may well be able to blame it on compatibility. Certain features of Word 2000 are disabled or don’t work correctly in Word 97, which means some documents may work just fine while others do not. One way to check this, and to at least be able to view the documents that you’re sent , is to download the free viewer that Microsoft offers. This works for Word 2000 as well as for previous versions.

That’s it! I knew since it was repeatable it must be something like that (someone else had created the document), but I hadn’t run across that setting before. You’re a life saver!

THIS IS SO COOL! This should go into Tip & Trick type places all over. Maybe it is, but I haven’t run across it before. fanfare Thank you!

THANKS! I’ll give it a try.

    • in reply to: keystrokes for Office shortcuts #587348

OK, I think I’ve figured this out:
There was still an Office 2000 folder located in my Start menu. Once I found it, there were all of the shortcuts to the Office 2000 files and I was able to go in and one by one delete the shortcut key assignments. Then I deleted that folder, and was able to go to the Office XP shortcuts and reset the shortcut keys on them.

    • in reply to: keystrokes for Office shortcuts #587340

I guess I wasn’t clear: I know how to set the Short Key, but I’m wondering how to remove the setting that’s still hanging around from a previous version of Office. I still want to launch Word, but when I try to enter it in the shortcut properties for Word 2002, it still tries to reference Word 2000. I can’t reset it because when I enter that key combination, it tries to execute it rather than enter it as the new shortcut.

That would be what I’m looking for! THANKS!! clapping

    • in reply to: could it be a shading bug? (2000 SR1) #585272

Yep, that worked. Now that I see it, it does make sense, but I agree that the default behavior should be changed! I guess I don’t feel TOO stupid, though, as the solution is a little obscure. Thanks so much!

    • in reply to: could it be a shading bug? (2000 SR1) #585260

Yeah, it won’t let me. Unless I apply shading to one or two words in the middle of where the cell or table breaks would be. Then I can remove it.

Example – (brown represents shading) in the first table I wouldn’t be able to remove the shading, in the second one I would.

    • Actually this is over a network that it’s slow, so it really shouldn’t be happening. I’ll see if the Excel route works. The problem is that it’s a department directory, so it is more of a Word type thing than an Excel one, but I’m sure Excel would be faster.
