    • in reply to: Want reliable, stable email program #1398822

I used Thunderbird for years but looked for another program when Mozilla stopped development on it.(It is still being supported by independents). The email clients which I tried and found worthy are: (in the order in which I liked them) 1. Pegasus Mail – free 2. Postbox – $10 3. Inscribe – free 4. eMClient – free 5. Dream Mail – free. Thunderbird is still great and I still have it on my laptop. Give them a try (as someone suggested, in a sandbox(which is how I tested them)) and maybe you will find one to your liking.

I am somewhat surprised that Incredimail wasn’t mentioned. It has been around for a while and is still being developed/supported. I tried it once years ago and liked it but haven’t ever read any reviews about it concerning security, etc. It’s almost as if no-one knows about it. Maybe it’s just too cute:). Does anyone else know about how it compares to Thunderbird, Outlook, etc. for security? I’d be interested to know.

    • in reply to: Recommend remote-connection program? #1295871

Well guys, just an update on how things went.
I d/l Team Viewer and connected my laptop to my desktop to play around with it and like Low Sierra says, it works great.
      Pretty easy to setup.

What I especially like is the ability to re-boot the PC you are working on and it resumes the remote session…
Also, you can transfer files, programs etc…

Plus, it has VOIP which I want to learn more about…
Before I use it for real I will play around with it for a few days to get more familiar with it…

Anyway, Thanks for all your suggestions and input…

      It was very enlightening…

Now, before I go, I’ll sing a song for you…..

I have been using TeamViewer for about a year now and it is excellent. Just tonight I used it to update one of the pc’s at church installing Win7 SP1 and several other updates. The preacher, the secretary, and I all use it to access church pc’s from home. We all love it. And as mentioned, it is free for non-commercial use. If you really want to be impressed, just go to their website and check out who uses it.

    • in reply to: Digging deeper into Win7-XP networking #1289305

Concerning Tom Linton’s problems with networking Win7/XP machines, I brought to your attention several years ago the excellent networking software Network Magic. Since that time it has been acquired by Cisco and unfortunately has not been updated in over a year, BUT it is still a (practically) perfect solution. I have 2 networks on which I use Network Magic and they are both virtually flawless & seamless in operation. One network has pc’s using XP Home Premium, Vista Home Basic, Vista Home Premium, and Win 7 Home Premium, all with file & printer sharing and internet access (both wired & wireless) and Network Magic handles it all flawlessly. Same on the other network which has XP Home Premium, Vista Home Premium, & Win 7 Professional. Network Magic can be bought (inexpensively I think) or used free (without file & printer sharing) after the trial period. Considering all the hassles I went through trying to get just 2 XP machines networking using just Windows (and never succeeded), Network Magic is lightyears ahead of Windows. Al Bateman.

    • in reply to: What website editor is easiest to use? #1283865

I agree with the comment that Frontpage adds too much “junk” code even though I do use it occasionally for special needs. My primary html editor is AceHTML, the freeware version. They also have a $$ pro version. AceHTML is not a WYSIWYG editor although it does have a builtin viewer and can launch your browser if desired. As a webmaster I have tried dozens of editors and have been using AceHTML for many, many years and have found it to be the simplest and easiest to use. It has only one problem that I have found and it really isn’t much of a problem; after launching AceHTML, if you move your cursor to the task bar before opening a file, it will terminate. This has happened on every computer that I have used it on. Oh, and a big plus for me is that AceHTML works in every version of Windows that I have used, from 95 right through to Win7. (I liked Coffecup and Arachnophilia, used HotDog for several years, liked Kompozer (for a WYSIWYG editor). Oh, well, enough of my ramblings…
