If you don’t already have it, even if it doesn’t fix your current problem, you might want to add Unlocker – CNET Download.com to your system for future use.

Thanks for the comments so far folks! As I said, this Palm is now two years old and the original two batteries I bought with it are still serviceable but lasting somewhat shorter time than they used to. I was advised a long time ago (when I had my previous phone) that cell batteries “usually” last two or three years, hence my decision to buy two replacements now.

I use a standalone charger only because my phone needs to be operational 24/7. (*) Since I use a standalone charger I have no way to measure the time it takes for “full charge” and simply put a discharged battery in until I need it. On the other hand, I CAN and do use the battery meter in the phone to watch for the degree of discharge. I think for these two new ones, I’ll change my strategy and recharge at “about” 20% remaining rather than my aforementioned 10% or so.

Batteries aren’t cheap, but if I get two or three use from them, I guess I can’t complain. Thanks again everyone!

(*) With my wife in a nursing home, I keep my phone under my pillow at night (don’t laugh) just in case of a medical emergency.

When it is cold in some parts of the world, it is usually hot somewhere else.

That’s a funny coincidence, John. At about the time you were making that post, I was emailing an acquaintance in Oz and one of my comments was about how HOT it is in Australia while I’m freezing my tush here in balmy Kentucky.

It’s in definite stages – first the paw, then the lick, and finally – what the hell, I’ll just climb in!

Maybe you should start off slow and take up dancing.

That’s the cutest, funniest thing I’ve seen all week! Thanks Samantha!

Deer in a field south of Omaha, taken just a couple of days ago:

Man, I wonder how they do that! Their legs must be a lot more super-strong than they look! Those babies are in snow up to their necks and plowing right on. If you and I were trying to plow through snow up to our necks I wonder if we could do it?

      I missed two.

I bet I missed the same two as you did, PLUS my third one was a “too quick” look and I blew the phone cable, calling it ethernet!

If you have enough hard drive space you could make a new, empty partition making sure it gets assigned a drive letter. While running Vista, put the Win 7 DVD in the drive and go to it in Windows Explorer. Execute the setup program and it should let you choose the new partition as the destination for Win 7.

This creates a dual boot but you can always get rid of Vista later if you like.

Nothing wrong with it if it suits your fancy, fills your need and WORKS! I don’t quite understand, but be that as it may…

I use Thunderbird and before that Netscape, so I’ve got emails going back more than ten years. I keep my Thunderbird “folderized” and with those folders that have a heavy load, I make sub-folders for years. Within each folder or sub-folder, I sort the mails by date so I never have much of a problem finding something. When I do, I’m glad the TB search engine will help me with that.

I can tell you one thing, (or maybe it’s two) that I won’t ever be doing any wing walking OR skiing! I’m content to be able to walk to and from the car to the various buildings I visit!

    • in reply to: Firefox affects sound #1196606

My main browser is Windows 2000, and friends have been encouraging me to update to Firefox, so I’ve been experimenting with it. Loading went fine and it seems to work, but for no apparent reason, my computer no longer plays any sounds. No CDs, no online radio, no sounds from websites. A Google search turned up some information that Firefox affects sound features. Any advice on getting the sound back?

Betsy, I’ve used Firefox from the beginning and have never had any problems with sound. Do you mind telling me the search term you used for that Google, please? While I wait, I think I’ll take a peek at the Mozilla Fx forum to see if I can find anything.

I would be delighted if you have the answers and would share them with me.

I’m afraid the only question I can answer, Teunis, is number 4: no, there is no help file and when you click Help in the Options button it just opens his web site, where there is no help. He has a forum but I’ve never gone there.

I think the only reason anyone, including me, ever used this program is to fool around with the background. And I won’t bore you with the stupid mistake I made when I paid him for the Pro version.

If Ed’s link is OK, I’d be a bit cautious if I were you. In a Whois check, anyone with an email contact name like this one, bears watching IMHO.
