Since you are using a DSL connection, have you configured the router for DHCP or PPPoE? It is my understanding that some DSL providers don’t like DHCP.

Jefferson — sorry for the mixup on names.

Testing the use of rich text again, it appears that it is not the answer to this problem. I wish I could figure this out.

      Hans,

Your suggestion worked! But why? My system is set to HTML, which should allow the same functinality.

    • in reply to: Calendar request (Outlook 2003) #954740

Thanks for the suggestion. I am trying that to see if it makes a difference. Presently, I use MS word as the editor and everything is sent HTML. But I changed this contact to always send using RTF to see if that helps.

The strange thing is that other OOffice XP users don’t have the same problem with my meeting requests which makes me think that something is wrong with his set-up.

I guess you’re not familiar with the tablet PC and Windows for the tablet PC 2005 enhancements. The answer to your question is no, Excel is not “ink friendly”, although Microsoft has written some enhancements for Excel that allows the user to write on (ink) a spreadsheet but not directly into the cells. The writing appears as a picture but one of the other enhancements offered by Microsoft is to then copy the “picture” as text which then can be pasted into the cell.

As I mentioned, the Pocket PC version of Excel allows the user to use pen input directly in the cell without using an external application. In the case of the tablet PC the external application is called the tablet input panel. The user would write on this input panel (or punch out letters on its screen keyboard) and that input would be inserted into the cell. It would be much more convenient if Excel would allow input directly into the cell as Excel for the Pocket PC does.

Thanks for your interest, Steve. What I was hoping for was a program or a plug-in that would allow hand written input directly into the cells rather than using the tablet PC input panel. Excel for the Pocket PC currently allows this — in fact, that is the preferred way to enter information into the cells unless you wanted to use the Pocket PC keyboard which is a waste of time.

I have been searching the Internet and have not come across any programs that offer this functionality.

    • This is a PST file. I’ve already used the scan PST utility just thinking that maybe there was some contamination within the file, but there was not. I believe this problem is confined to either Microsoft Word or outlook as either one of them is thinking that they are doing the right thing conserving space by not showing the graphic. The funny thing is this problem just started about a week ago — previously all of the graphics — including my hand written e-mail messages — in the inbox and sent items folders were displayed properly.

    • If I open a message that has been sent, the signature graphic does not appear except as an icon as noted above. This also happens in the reading pane.

I am using Outlook 2003 with Microsoft Office 2003 and I have no problems, so far, with compatibility of word 2003 with Outlook 2003. But I wish I could find an answer to this problem. One of the negative aspects of this issue is that when I go to print out a sent message, my signature does not appear on the printed page. And, if I hand write a reply (I’m using a tablet PC), the hand writing will not print as well. Frustrating.

    • Unfortunately, that did not help the situation. That checkbox was checked. This is driving me nuts.

    • Yes, the image appears on the screen when composing the message. After the message is sent the signature graphic does not show any longer. However, what is really strange is that when the message is selected in order to reply to it, then the signature graphic appears in the reply.

This must have something to do with, as you say, images been turned off within Internet Explorer but I cannot find that.

    • Thanks for your reply.

Actually I do not see those statements you mention. Here is this XML coding in the attachment:

Thanks Hans. It’s too bad someone doesn’t try to re-invent a small 3D spreadsheet like this.

I do not believe the MSFT knows what works or doesn’t work yet they proceed to meerily add bells and whistles to the software that hardily anyone in the corporate world will use. Their project management staff should take a deep breath and fix what’s wrong before adding new stuff.

Thanks. Your first suggestion did the trick. I wonder how these things happen?
