AskWoody LoungerJohn – thanks. Yes – this is a standalone machine. Links work in IE and generally my sercurity levels there are medium to medium low. The links do not work in word or excel either,

AskWoody LoungerOutlook 2002 and 2003 include an Outlook db repair tool called scanpst.exe. I cannot remember if Outlook 2000 does, but you might check. HOWEVER, it appears your problems are not related to just Outlook but to some contamination on your system. Have you tried uninstalling Office and re-installing? If not, you might try that but before you do, run a virus scan, spybot and adaware just to make sure there is no external contamination within the system.

AskWoody LoungerThe answer is yes as if I made all data visible than I would need to resort the list. Then, obviously, the subtotals would work as expected. If I did not sort the list, then the subtotals would not work properly.
I used Excel 2002 for several years and am a heavy user of auto filter and this is the first time that I have run into this problem. I just assumed that Excel 2002 would work only on the visible data.

AskWoody LoungerThanks to all of you for your help. You were right — Excel 2002 cannot handle the auto filter properly (whereas Excel 2003 can). Once I removed the filter and then redid the subtotals, everything worked fine. Interesting.

AskWoody LoungerHans — perhaps you did not see my post above. A quick look at the file does not really indicate that the subtotals are already in place. In order to see the problem, first remove the subtotals and then try to insert them again, do a “for every change in bus”, do a count.

AskWoody LoungerThe file was posted with the subtotals in place. In order to view the problem, remove the subtotals and then regenerate them using change in bus. In Excel 2002 you’ll see that the subtotals are incorrectly applied. This problem does not occur in Excel 2003.

AskWoody LoungerOK, here is a copy of workbook where the subtotals are not working correctly. I did have an opportunity to test this on Excel 2002 and it did replicate the problem exactly as it was doing on the other computer (remember, this does not happen in Excel 2003). The file that I am uploading here shows the inaccurate subtotals. I certainly will be interested in any comments you have and also certainly appreciate your help.

AskWoody LoungerYes, I can upload a copy of the database. Are you running Excel 2002?. The reason I ask is that this problem does not occur with Excel 2003.
I will need to make some changes to the proprietary information before I upload the database.

AskWoody LoungerI thought of that as well, but to prove to myself that it was not this, I copied the first cell Bus # into all of the other cells with the same Bus # – and it still happens.
