Notice a change this week when presented with a batch of patches (5th April). Although these are non-security office patches I cannot find any information as to wait or install in the newsletter. At least with the once a month patches Susan always gave us the low down on the Thursday of that week.
Best wishes and good luck to Kathleen.

      Thanks Joe
Here is the reply from Microsoft Answer Desk:-

You can try to install it again and if you are still having issue with your Flash drive you can uninstall it and try to wait for another update for your computer or driver update for the hardware. Or you can contact Kingston or Manufacturer of your computer for the updated driver for the USB port.
Yes, if you are having issue with the update. I suggest that you wait for another update then try to include that on the next Windows Updates

Shall try this after holiday. Cheers

Is the Cruzer Edge flash drive encrypted?
My Kingston is an encrypted flash drive, perhaps this is why I was having a problem with the patch. Uninstalling patch definitely solved my problem and I shall wait and see what Susan’s comments are in her next column.

Hi again, tried the password secure flash in another USB port but it did not recognise device. I then uninstalled the patch KB3139398 and the flash now works fine. Looks like patch was the culprit.Expect Microsoft to fix this or is that Kingstons problem? Thanks for your help.

Thanks mrjimps for your quick reply. I will take your advice and try it over the next few days and let you know outcome. Cheers

Agree wholeheartedly with rgellman (228) & Richard (230) who could not put it better. Sums up my feelings exactly. Thanks

Thanks Martin for that although not being a techie the link is pretty much “double dutch” to me but I shall take on board what you say about it not affecting domestic users much and shall install.
      Cheers

    • in reply to: Wrapping up a relatively mild month of updates #1535215

Perhaps I missed them; nevertheless, I have questions about the following:
      kb 3085609, kb 3042058, kb 2999226, and kb 3083710.

Thanks in advance for advice on these.:o:

      Hi
KB3042058 & KB3083710 Susan asks to skip both for now. She wants to wait a bit more to see if they are okay.

KB3085609 MS15-110 See Windows Newsletter 15th Oct – Advice, Install update offered.

KB2999226 – Sorry but cannot help with this one.
      Cheers

    • in reply to: Remedies for common printer pains #1534350

Hi, I leave my Canon pixma printer on all the time but also do not use it every day. When its not in regular use, when passing every week or so, I do a “nozzle check pattern” directly from the printer with the pc off (any scrap paper), taking seconds. This procedure has kept ink usage to a minimum and always ready to when the occasion arises for printing.

    • in reply to: Why so many W10 articles in the Windows Secrets Newsletter #1534349

“Read the back issues”? I do not pay a subscription just to read back issues. I too would like to see more of a mix without causing a rift between the different users. Perhaps the new newsletter system will satisfy most readers. :crossfingers:

    • in reply to: Win Update disappears from Notification Area #1528052

Thanks for the info. Isn’t Microsoft just wonderful!! I have hid KB2991963 in the meantime (see Susan Bradley article windows secrets 13/11/14). Shall take on board your comments about other updates. Spent too much time on all these updates, now going to watch a bit of footie.
      Cheers

    • in reply to: Lost Windows Update Icon in System Tray #1528037

I have posted a reply in the Windows 7 Forum Thread:-
Win Update disappears from Notification Area
with my experience. Hope it helps.

    • in reply to: Win Update disappears from Notification Area #1528034

I do not have KB3065987 installed and never been offered this from Microsoft. However I did have KB3075851 and un-installed this patch which has resolved the icon and notification problem. I then checked for updates expecting the KB3075851 patch to be re-offered but it was not. There was another patch KB2991963 offered outwith patch Tuesday and this was not mentioned in Windows Secrets newsletter along with KB3083992, KB3086255, KB3077715 & KB3083324 which I have held back until further advice. Worth having a look at http://tinyurl.com/oodqwdd
Has anyone had any problems with the above patches and can they be safely installed?
      Cheers

    • in reply to: Win Update disappears from Notification Area #1527856

I too have just started to have this problem with win7 and tried the suggestion by Sudo15 with no luck. There is only one icon for Windows Update but this has the “Windows installed new updates” below it. There is no other Windows Update icon to customize. I only realized when no notifications came down for the September updates and manually checked through the control panel for updates and received them from there. Normally I only select a few for installing and the icon in the tray stays there, letting me know some more are being offered. Icon is no longer there. This means I have to do a daily check manually to see if new updates are available such as defender outwith patch tuesday. Any help appreciated. Thanks

    • in reply to: November Patch KB 2991963 #1475223

Thanks, I do not use Japanese. Should I just right click the patch and hide it? Belarc advisor pc check seems to think it should be installed but that may be an international thing? Do you know what Susan Bradley means about testing before deployment?
      Cheers
      Bob
