AskWoody LoungerSeptember 13, 2007 at 8:52 pm in reply to: Analysis Toolpak automatic translation (EXCEL 2003) #1075427Hi Hans and Federico,
Hans, you probably don’t remember, but I had the same problem a couple of months ago and you recommended the same add-in. I downloaded the add-in and found it straightforward and easy to use, but it did not resolve the problem entirely. The add-in reported finding 15 (I think) add-in functions that it translated from Spanish to English, and it reported success, but the file still had #NAME errors that were unresolved.
Eventually we sent the file to Microsoft Premier Support, which is reputed to be Microsoft’s highest level of customer support. They wrote a utility specifically to update the functions in the file, but, as with the add-in, they could not resolve all the #NAME errors, and they didn’t know why. They finally gave up and told me that they had tested the original file (the one I sent them) in the Spanish Language version of Excel and that did resolve the problem. They were unable to explain why the file worked with the Spanish Language version of Excel but failed with the English Language version even though all the formulas and functions had been translated.
So we installed a Spanish Language version of Excel and, sure enough, the file processed properly. It may be that ultimately you will need to install a Spanish Language version to fully resolve the issue.
Hope this helps…

AskWoody LoungerHi Hans,
That utility looks like it might be a winner. I won’t know until I get permission to use it here (they are quite security-minded here).
I’ll let you know. As always, thank you for your prompt and really valuable reply…

AskWoody LoungerVery nice, very clever solution. Thank you very much…

WSBrookBoy
AskWoody LoungerActually, I think your solution will work. We should be able to sort the values in descending order…
As always, thank you very much…

AskWoody LoungerHi Hans,
No, it doesn’t have to be exactly 40.
Thanks…

AskWoody LoungerHi Jan Karel,
I am very interested in your remarks on this topic. Could you expand on them a little? For example, what code would work well in normal modules but not in workbook or worksheet modules?
Thanks…

AskWoody LoungerHi. I have attached a file that shows a data table that uses the FV function (Future Value). The table shows twenty years worth of variable monthly payments at variable rates. That is, you can use the table to see how much you would accumulate if you put away $100 per month and received 3% interest on that savings. Over 20 years you would accumulate 32,830. If you change the number of years in cell B2 you will see how the change would affect your accumulation. You can also change the percentage amounts (E7:R7) and/or the amount you put away each month (D8:D23) and the table will automatically recalculate.
The downside of this table is that it assumes a constant monthly payment over the entire period, but it will give you some idea of how much you’ll need to put away in order to accumulate a specific amount of money..

AskWoody LoungerI thought of that, wondered if there might be something even simpler.
A friend at work suggested she get a gmail account and then upload her data to the account. Apparently the gmail space limitations are huge. Hadn’t thougth of that…

AskWoody LoungerHi John,
Thanks for the suggestion. Don’t know about the connections. I’ll take a look the next time I see her….

AskWoody LoungerWell, if you haven’t been back to Fifth Avenue in Park Slope for a while you probably wouldn’t recognize the place. It has evolved from, shall we say, seedy to hip and even exciting. There are still bodegas and hardware stores and other establishments that go back many a year, but there are also dozens of restaurants, bars and other attractions for young adults (and not-so-young adults). It’s become a destination restaurant row for locals and even for some farther away.
If you were from further south on Fifth Avenue, around Sunset Park, that neighborhood also has evolved. It has a different feel than Fifth Avenue nearer Flatbush, but if you want some great Mexican food or just the stimulation of walking through an ethnic neighborhood in full bloom, it’s the place to go.

AskWoody LoungerAnd howdy back to you, Big Al. I grew up in Manhattan (where my father was also a super, in a building that had a coal furnace), but my wife and I have lived in Park Slope since 1987, and before that we lived in Clinton Hill (part of Fort Green). We loved Brooklyn from the first and we really enjoy living here.
Regarding your question, unfortunately she has only one connection to the Internet. But what occurs to me as I write this is that perhaps she and I can set up a VNC so I can get her files and then send them to her on the new PC. She may not be entirely comfortable with sending her files to me, though, so that isn’t a solution that we can count on.
I was thinking more about just connecting the two computers directly and transferring the data from the old to the new. I’m pretty sure she’s gonna dump the old computer once the new one has all the data, so there’s no need for any kind of sophistication, just some sort of approach to get the files from one computer to the other.
Thanks for your suggestion, though. And come on back to Brooklyn anytime…

AskWoody LoungerHi Hans,
You have helped me out many times on the Excel board, and now you’ve done it again on the Outlook board. That was the problem…
It makes one (well, let’s say it makes ME) wonder why Microsoft would set up such a default…
Thank you once again for your invaluable help…

AskWoody LoungerHi Jan Karel,
Thank you for the code. It works a charm.
Now I need to incorporate it into my larger model, but I won’t be able to until next week. It looks like exactly what I need.
Thank you again…

AskWoody LoungerHi Hans,
Thank you for your reply.
I just ran your code on the sample file and it looks like it does the trick. I will incorporate it into the larger macro now and let you know.
Thanks so much for your great solution.
Best regards,

AskWoody LoungerJuly 18, 2006 at 1:22 pm in reply to: How to loop thru worksheets without selecting them (Excel 2003) #1020831Hi Hans,
Well, it turns out that there is no need, as the code Legare Coleman offered did the trick.
I’m not sure what I was doing wrong in my original efforts. I did go through and refer to the sheet before every Cell statement but I couldn’t get rid of the problem. Perhaps I needed to restart Excel.
But let me thank you once again for your responses and your efforts. This site really does terrific things.
Regards,
