Thanks for the replies and advice, chaps. Yes, Roderunner, I’d like to give WLM 2009 a try. How do I gain access to the installation file?

Has anyone got any ideas on my other query about renaming Local Folders? Or installing that account under its own name?

    • in reply to: Recommend scanning software? #1310700

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Scannito Pro. This is lovely software and does everything you could want it to.

I also found the software that came with my Canon scanner was hopeless. I like to be able to preview a scan, crop it and then scan into a specified folder. I looked around for freeware that would let me do this without hassles but couldn’t find any. So I tried three commercial programs and settled on Scannito Pro, which is brilliant: it loads quickly, is easy to use and has some nice features. And it’s not costly, only about $25 for a full licence.

I would recommend it to anyone.

    • in reply to: Hoax calls from “Microsoft” #1304274

This scam is also rampant here in Australia. I’ve had several such calls and know of some people who’ve actually been taken in by the scammers.

My way of dealing with them is to ask them what version of Windows I’m using, which they would know if they were actually ‘seeing’ my Windows installation as they claim. They have to admit they don’t know, so I tell them I don’t believe they’re from MS and ask them not to call again.

This seems to have worked, as I haven’t had one of their calls for some months now. (Touch wood!):)

    • in reply to: Win 7 – XP file sharing #1297824

Many thanks, guys, for your help. Using a combination of your ideas, I finally managed to get the file sharing working. It sure seems that Win 7 is most reluctant to allow this to happen unless all machines in the network are running the same version.

Thanks again and best regards to all.

    • in reply to: Multiple tables in a document? #1288746

Thank you very much, Charles. That’s most helpful and has solved my problem.

Thanks also for the links. Rest assured I’ll make good use of them.

      Best regards
      Hugh

    • in reply to: Multiple tables in a document? #1288676

Many thanks, Paul, for your quick and helpful reply. It worked fine, but now there’s much too much space between the two tables. Deleting the one and only return code joins them back together again. Is there a way to adjust the space betwen them?

      Cheers
      Hugh
