I have had problems with the software for my 7410 All-In-One and had to reinstall it over 20 times (no, this was not a typo). Each time I reinstalled it started by automatically uninstalling most of the original installation, but as seems to be more and more expected, left a lot of little artifacts in the registry that had to be rooted out line by line.

I don’t think the uninstall step is optional, at least it hasn’t been with any of my HP software or drivers for a number of years now.

I tried to use both a Seagate and WD 1T backup but neither worked using eSATA even though they had ports and advertised ability to use them. When I do my weekly full disk backup on USB it takes FOREVER! I gave up and made my own external backup drive out of an empty case (easy to find) and extra hard drive. instead of a forecast 5-hour backup job using USB it takes about 1/2 hour using eSATA.

Seagate had me update it’s firmware which helped for one backup. The next day I tried to make an incremental backup which forecast 10 hours! I know that these estimates go much lower in a hurry after you get started, but none of these did. It turned out that it couldn’t keep its firmware updates after it was powered off.

Remember when Seagate’s tech support was staffed by pros who knew what they were doing and backed up good products?

I also have been using Last Pass for over a year now. I occasionally get a minor hiccup (like having to tell it to fill in my user name and password) but find it to be 99% functional.

I generally create my own passwords but with variations I could never remember. Because I am not a very trusting type I also list all of my sites and their passwords in a folder in MS Outlook and keep it current “just in case”. That folder is also included with my critical daily backups.

I continue to use Outlook 2003 for the simple reason a lot of others use it: it synchronizes my contacts and appointments with my cell phone and most others. I do wish that Win7 had continued to let it read newsgroups.
