Since BCC is out of the question, you’re assumption is correct. To print the message only, highlight (or select) the area required, sent to printer and ask it to “print selected area only”. I use multiple email programs including OE and find this is the case in most.

    • in reply to: Rich text (HTML) in OE (XP Internet Explorer 6.0) #607483

If I understand you’re original question, I guess you are aware all you have to do in a NEW MESSAGE in OE, is to make sure under the word “FORMAT ” HTML is selected as the desired reply -. In the event the recipient does not have HTML turned on or prefers simple text, the message you create will automatically revert to whatever format the recipient has selected in their own settings of email. Hope that makes sense to you. When pasting from WORD to OE, if you have HTML selected, then whatever you have pasted over will come up correctly.

Hi Mark, I am on an ME machine at present and have been loading a new XP notebook for a client (stop laughing, even I can follow Dell’s on screen instructions for hopeless users 🙂 – both of you’re DOS commands work exactly as you say, and thanks for telling me where they buried the DOS prompt in Accessories on XP, Id never have found that one thinking DOS was completely gone from XP. Old habits die hard, but you folks are all teaching me new ones to try out and learn. Many thanks again for all you’re excellent advice.

Thanks Doc, is it XP and ME that are making DOS unavailable? I do use the Run command for telnet when using machines that are running ME and XP. Having 98 on my personal machine leaves me with the natural urge to hit dos. Also thank you for the tips on the IP programs, I am having a look at them all. Terrific amount of useful information on this site, I will be forever learning! angel

    • in reply to: Softward for tracing IP? #606405

Andrew this is a cool site, everything on one web page that I have been doing in dos and telnet without it timing out! I am deeply into “simple” coz I’m pretty basic at this level. Appreciate the tip greatly.

    • in reply to: Softward for tracing IP? #606402

Excellent web sites for me to read and get a clearer understanding of what I am trying to work out. I downloaded NeoTrace and will give it a try. I agree totally about Web Ferret too, have been using it for ages and find it great. Thank you kindly for responding.

    • in reply to: ZoneAlarm 3.1 #605044

Hi Doc, yes it will be Zone Alarm I will try out, thanks for the instructions. I am even more “alarmed” having read you’re post relating to you’re own knob being probed! (Sorry, I have a wicked sense of humor, am I allowed to joke in here?). Re:- online 24/7, this is the case at work, no matter where in the world I am located (I move around lots), but at home I do use a simple DUN, dial up connection to log on as required, even though I could leave my machine online constantly, it would be wasted in an empty house and (I thought) more vulnurable. 🙂

    • in reply to: ZoneAlarm 3.1 #605036

flee Thanks Phil, quite right Id no doubt get run over. Being rushed off my feet with work and travel, I probably run across the street without looking in either direction! When I read you’re reply, it made me realize my words could have been misconstrued, after all one cannot be a little bit pregnant, so Im off to grab that firewall at once! smile

    • in reply to: ZoneAlarm 3.1 #605032

Mark thanks for the brilliant analogy, you are an excellent teacher. Ill download one of those firewalls and take you’re suggestion of simply trying it out. Man I must be tired, of course I can simply uninstall the program if it slows my system further. WAY too much for this dumb blonde to cope with the obvious! 🙂 I appreciate the info greatly.

    • in reply to: ZoneAlarm 3.1 #605011

Correction – sorry Dave, I see you (not Mark) started the thread on ZA, so thank you for introducing the topic it has been a real education. clever

    • in reply to: ZoneAlarm 3.1 #605009

Of course you may interject, this has been very informative and helpful. I am one of “those” who has no clear concept of exactly what a firewall does apart from preventing someone gaining access to my machine remotely, right? As Nancy mentioned I am running 98, and have a machine that is already running slow and heavy, therefore I am hesitant to load anything that may slow it down further. I’ve been told freeware firewalls are useless, but cannot back that up either way since I have never tried one out.

I am grateful to Mark for starting this thread on the topic because it has helped me to understand a little about ZA and its uses. I get the impression most in this forum are online constantly? If so the need to protect machines would be absolutely necessary, what about if I am logging on only periodically for a couple of hours a day? Do you feel I need this type of protection? help Thanks everyone.

    • in reply to: ZoneAlarm 3.1 #604498

Mark, can you qualify “suspicious file types” for me please? I am interested to know what Zone Alarm might pick up that the latest Norton system works and AV does not. Thank you. cool

    • in reply to: Why can #601554

Is your version of Outlook also 97? Im assuming you dont have both Outlook and Outlook Express open at the same time, if you do there are conflicts between the latest version of Outlook Express and Outlook 97. In the default box that asks if you want Outlook Express to be your default email, is there an option to tick yes then “not see this reminder screen again”?

Hi Mark, laughed at your “aint broke why not” comment, every guy I know keeps at thier computers until they are indeed “broken” – maybe its a guy thing? (to which I have no answer)… confused I believe my video card and sound card are both good, I had them upgraded about 2 years back. Ive even backed up most of my graphic stuff to zip to get it off the hard drive hoping for better speed from my overworked 64 mgs, but to no avail. Believe me when I say I had to be desperate to try installing the new SDRAM myself, since I work often on my clients machines, I realize how slow mine is. But exclamation it has been reliable, (far more so than the men in my life) hence my reasoning for not doing anything too radical, or being tempted to get a newer one (machine that is). Thanks for the thought, Im willing to take on any suggestions or ideas to improve speed, RAM seems a good option, I only have to figure out why it sent my machine in loop mode……appreciate your comments, thanks again. Thank you, thank you, Ill give it a try. I dont have a Dell, only a generic machine which is 4 years old – but will see if F8 works. It may be slow but so far very reliable, Im one of those “if it aint broke, dont fix it” girls! Ive done a huge amount of work on this computer including multiple graphics stuff, so no complaints apart from it running too slow….I appreciate your swift reply, thanks again. crossfingers
